Nyos Quantum 120 Skimmer?

For those of you running the Nyos, how does it react to sock changes? I am frequently changing my mesh socks.

I run a single sock and there's no change with the skimmer when swapping them out. It even runs fine when I turn off the return pump or turn on feed mode with the ecotech vectra. This was never possible with the vertex I used to use, a few drops more of water in the sump caused it to overflow.

I went with the nyos because of the adjustability, it's easy to see where it's set and allows for a lot of fine tuning if necessary.

One thing about a skimmer, just focus on the pump and how reliable it is. To me, please nobody get offended as its my opinion, I think they are just glorified skimmers. Sure, they looks REALLY sweet and all - but in a few months it should and will look like a nasty skimmer as its intended to pull poop and waste from our water.

So I've had a few people say "well it has titanium screws!" Ok that is great if you are built a rocket ship, as for now, my plastic screws work just fine.

Overall, all skimmers have the same body style. I focus on the pumps and how good they work and how long they will last. I personally like the pop on/pop off collection cup and a drain plug.
Lol, you are awesome. I want a nyos cause its look to be the bomb.

So, I called and talked with Scott and Mike at Aquarium Specialty about different models. After much discussion, they brought up the fact that they both sell and service the RLSS brand skimmers. They suggested a new skimmer that was debuted at MACNA, the RLSS DB6-i: http://reefbuilders.com/2015/09/09/...ally-new-db5i-db6i-and-db8i-protein-skimmers/

It is Apex Controllable and different in many ways from just about all other skimmers on the market right now. I am not sure if this will be good or bad, but figured it was worth a shot. I kinda like the idea of Apex controllability and abitilty to control the flow and air.

Turns out these are not really in-stock yet, and I ended up with the model that was on display at MACNA (kinda cool, but makes me want to clean it real well..lol).
