NYOS Salt

Nyos update. Like i mentioned yesterday im going to do testing on the parameters today. Before doing the water change. Used salifert. And i did the test over 5 times for each test for testing error. And accuracy. Here are the results mag still testinf 1260-1280 with salifert. Low i have no clue why. Alk hanna and salifert hanna 8.2 and salifert 8.3. Calcium 430-440. I rinsed the viles for more than 20 times to confirm those results. Im going to increase the mag to match my tank. But so far not impressed with their mag. It says the whole batch is 1337. And im testing lower than that.

Blindly and completely trusting ICP is an issue. It’s already been shown numerous times that ICP testing has faults. Accuracy, reliability, and precision are not a given with ICP results.

I’d actually place Triton on the lower level of ICP companies right now after seeing all the tests

Im not trusting ICP. But like when u do a magnesium test with a magnentic stirrer on salifert over 6 times and u get the same results. I dosed mag and lifted the water change brute from 1260 to 1380

But what is the assumption that magnesium is low? 1260-1280 is above natural seawater

My tank is 1380. Why would i do 44 gallons water change on a 150 and drop my mag for no reason in the tank?

I’m only asking why you claimed the magnesium was “low”?

I run my tank at 1440 for magnesium and never once check or care what the magnesium is coming from my new water. I also don’t do 30-40% water changes ever

With the colder weather is anyone having a hard time getting Nyos to mix up well? Last couple batches don’t seem like they are dissolving. I checked and my fresh made RO water is 55° F so wonder if that’s the culprit. Never had this issue is past winters with Red Sea. I am of course filling the reservoir and adding salt mix 1/2c at a time until proper salinity is reached. Got the best pic I could. This is not bubbles or surface crud btw and water was mixing for a couple hours at this point.

I haven't had any issues but I use room temp RO which in basement is about 64/65 this time of year... It does take longer to completely mix when colder

Bump to see if anyone else is having mixing/precipitate issues especially with the buckets? This is from the second chunky bag and I just wanna hear if the buckets are ok before I crack into the 3 I have vs returning them.

I just ordered a bucket from specialty aquarium, and now I’m worried I should have just gone with Tropic Marin. Are we still getting chunky salt with low mag?

My recent bag is fine. My recent bucket had some clumping but not much. None of my batches ever tested low on mag (or any other parameter afaik)

Alright, thanks, good to know. Someone else had mentioned low mag. I'm picking salt for a 5 gallon eshopps build and was hoping to replenish everything with my salt mix through frequent water changes so I didn't have to play with dosing. Honestly, I know almost any salt mix will do, but since I'm going so small I want to just enjoy using a "premium" salt, even if mostly for the feels.

We use it at our Farm and I must say I never used a cleaner salt.
Even after 2000 gallons mixed there isn’t any crud in the mixing tub.

Likewise - even in small batches for copepod reactors this is the cleanest and quickest mixing salt I have yet experienced!

I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and it really is the best salt I’ve ever used. It’s super clean, mixes crystal clear in 5 minutes and is immediately ready to use, and leaves absolutely nothing behind. This will be my salt going forward permanently, I’m fine with paying the premium over reef crystals to avoid the crud.

What’s the ratio for the salt? I wanna mix 30 gallons to 1.026 dont want to guess
