Ocean Revive or viparspectra lights

You could look at the Reef Breeders lights which are made by the same factory as the Revives. I think the spectrum is better on the RBs.

I like those but not at 400 bucks each! I've looked at those before. Went the current orbit marine pros instead...

I mounted my Viper Spectras end on which meant for me the controls didn't face the front and the remote isn't that great. The remote on the Ocean lights looks exactly the same
I had a Viparspectra and was great, well I still have it (for a spare) but changed over to Kessils. The only problem I had was the remote does not last long. The first one I accidentally dropped in the water on the first day, I called the company to buy a new one and after telling them I dropped it in the tank they sent me a new one free of charge, great customer service. Any way I used mine for a few years and used the remote daily would wear out in around six months, and they replaced the remote free every time.

Just checked on eBay and they have 2 Viparspectra lights for just under $200, VIPARSPECTRA Timer Control 2pcs165W LED Aquarium Light

@BrandonS tank is 72 x 18 x 22 I believe
I have (2) 300W over a 225 which is 72" long. They cover end to end. The lights are 31.5" long. Two would be 63". If your tank is 72" that only leaves 9" not directly under the lights. I have mine 3" apart in the middle and 3" from each end. No dead spots.

new window,check,sand textured walls,check,pair of vipers^^^^, ;) :)next;)

So the real question going with these lights, is there any advantage to going 3 of the 300's or is that overkill and a waste of money. 3 of the 165's is 360 bucks, 2 of the 300's is 400. 3 would be 600. also, what about a 300 in the middle and 2 165's on each side. Is this just way more light than I'd need?

This time around, I want lights to grow sps or whatever I want, yet also last! I plan to mount them 12 to 14 inches high

And what about the spotlight effect I've read about. Is it bad, livable, or dealt with by intensity settings

I super appreciate all feedback here.

i could see ,2 165's and a 300 ;) which ever placement can be decided and moved ,but 3 165 will work at 12-14 " will all be dialed down;)no more input from me here lets let the reef give advice,i'm partial... @alimac122 opinion ??

You can easily remove the lenses and that will remove the “spotlight” effect they have. Blending and spread will be much better. Then you can easily mount them lower to get the par back up.

I have my Mars aquas lenses removed and mounted at 12” above waterline over my standard 6’ 125.

Viparspectra is pretty good, I have two of the 300W ones over my 180g and everything has been growing pretty good

I figured with 3 165's if one goes bad down the road it would be cheaper to replace than a 300.
3 165's would be plenty of light and you would have to dial them down a bit.
Also, BRS suggests 12 to 14 inches is the right height to hang them, both for spread and effect.

I have a single 300w Viparspectra over my 36" tank, so (2) over a 72" tank would be fine imho.

My only complain on the Viparspectra's is that the white channel is too strong as is... even at only 1% (the lowest settting) the white channel puts out too much light. I wish you could turn the white channel down even further. Other than that, they are great lights provided you don't need your lights to ramp up/down.

I'd love the lights to ramp up and down! I do like that with the current marine orbits. What if I have the middle light come on with blues at 1 time. Then the other 2 come on 30 min later. and then do the same with the whites. One remote would still work for all 3 to adjust intensity if I wanted to change?

??? good question;)

1% white is too much? I'm running 94% blue, 40% white.
