UGH, today I though was having a great day getting great live coral from several people today, but the one dry order came in correctly but went south to my mistake.

I bought a bubble king mini 160 and i definitely measured wrong an underestimated the size of the thing because its built like a tank for being a mini. It barely fits under my stand and the only reason it will fit under there is if I take my sump out everything single time half way. which means I cant take out the skimmer without taking out the sump everytime.

So now the question is....would you sell the skimmer, and buy a different one, deal with it, or somehow try to build a new stand. I dont really like the last choice lol.

lol ill take picture right now, you guys are all gonna laugh at me!!! this was my early Christmas present to but luckily my gf isnt her to laugh at me in person.

i think ill be fine, its just when I do clean it, I have to more the entire tank to get to the back it lol. its not bad not but its also only filled with like 20g gallons of water.

lol i think i prob i will just keep it because of the hassle of taking it out LOL. the only way I can take the cup out is take the sump partly out and twist the cup somehow to get it out. but as he said its just once a month, it should be fine. the cup is HUGE.

it is like no skimmer i have had before. I used the height of a 110w Octupus skimmer and they are clearly different in every way shape and form. so i guess i will try it out and check it when the first day comes to clean the cup.

Your going to have to clean that cup every week and if you ever have pump issues its going to be a major pain. But if you can deal with that then keep it as it should work well.

KEEP IT! i run a 160 mini on my 40g 110g tottal and love it! That is amazing i have the same prob this is what i do.

-take the collection cup and add the line to a externiol jar.
- When i need to take it off this i what i do.

- take the top off
- Take off the one red pipe
(this is hard you have to losen it, then wiggle and back and forth it till its out.
- Then i angle the skimmer terning it front first to get it out....

I don't think you will find a skimmer that will fit in your sump under that stand. If you're going to replace something it will be either the sump or the stand.

You'll end up cleaning it more often than once a month or it will stink like heck! Once a week is even pushing it if its doing much skimming.

+1 on connecting the collection cup to a jar/container. Then you don't have to take out the collection cup to clean out the skimmate. Just make sure the jar is still in your sump. If something goes wrong and it overfills you want the water to go back into the sump, not all over the floor.

nevermind. Thank you m and m, I think either way i would need a new stand/sump for any decent skimmer.

Thank you everyone

I have the same skimmer, and love it. I clean my cup every 2-3 days...it does skim best when it doesn't have a week (or a month's ) of nasty on it. If you have to move the sump partway out, you should sell it :(. Your sump will be full of water, and moving it will be really hard, it not impossible, without breaking your sump.
