For about a week and a half nearly all(95%) of my zoas have been closed up.... I've tested my water numerous times. I have a hammer that's ticked too. An acan that seems to be happy hermits happy banded serpent that's happy snails thriving I just dont know what to do....

Trying running carbon to remove toxin.
Anything die lately?

Post your parameters, including salinity.

Some pics might help as well.

I've got about a lb of carbon in the sump atm. Have since saturday. I had a nitrate spike. Like maroon on the test. Lost 2 peppermint shrimp and a coral banded shrimp.

Also an aqueon optibrite led on dt

Params as of yesterday evening. I refuse to test constant and go insane. Lol.

Also... I can get u pics to tank tomorrow. Its past their lights out. But one lil group of zoas is "bottlenecking" and getting dark in the thinned area.

Your temperature is at 72! Why so low. Big swing in temp will **** boff softies.

Have you tested anmonia?

What caused the nitrate spike?

.50 ppm ammonia.
72 bc I dont run a heater.
I vacced sandbed a few days b4 spike so thinking that's y.
I dont have those tests‍♂️♂️

I've never ran a heater... though now that u say something that may be part of it bc of the clip on over the sump. 8 in or so above water....

And dont havethe tests bc I'm a dummy. I had some 5 yr old ones donated to me by a friend but I pitched em bc they were 5yr old...

I use sealab no 28. Blocks... though about 2 weeks before all the turmoil I'd ran out of em. I've got some now tho... it's my understanding that they only release what's needing replenished somehow....

This is the first time this many zoas have done this. I've had a couple nitrate spikes b4 due to negligence and laziness...
I do a 5 gallon wc once a week and a 15 once a month. No not both in same week.5,5,5,15.

I use reef Crystal's orange bag...
Ive quit over feeding about a month ago.
Only once a week for fish 3 for filter feeders.

During the nitrate conundrum I was triple dosing prime daily for 2 days then single dosing for 3 days then went every other day for 4 just b4 adding chaeto..

Well.. you need a heater or two.
I would recommend getting a temperature controller and a fan as well on Amazon for cheap.

Also get the salifert test kits for alk, ca and mg

It's not possible to fix your problem unless you have a idea of what you're working with

How big is the tank? For now, do lots of small water changes to help get things back on track.

55 gallon display, 20 gallon sump.
About 60 lbs of rock in dt, 5 in refugium.
Sump runs at 13 g w rocks. 9-10 without

Small. Like 1 gallon? 5 gallon? Daily? Bidaily?
I would do like 5 gal/day.

The reason for small is you want small changes. Big water changes always mess up my sps. If you only have softies, big changes would be ok.
