Opinions of Shallow Tanks

So what is your opinions on shallow reef tanks? The thank is only 8in so I know I would be very limited in rockwork and fish options but the more I think about it the cooler I think it would be. If you have a shallow tank please post pictures!

If done right, they could be awesome. I'd much prefer a shallow tank.

Awesome as a frag/grow out tank. I knew a guy who plumbed one into the sump of his main tank, so all he added was a thin layer of sand to the shallow tank.

My tank is 9 inches deep. The tide pool affect I find attractive.

Shallow tanks are great for viewing clams and corals from above. A shallow tank does limit scape possibilities considerably, I am currently redoing my scape to attempt to give depth to the scape.

Maintenance has been easier as well. Of course you have greater access to the corals and inverts, cleaning the sand (if you do that), removing unwanted algae growth to corners and sand bed line is much easier and quickly done.

There's supposed to be 2 RW4s on it at 100% but 1 died so now only one and there's a dc12000 running both tanks also at 100% and even with crushed coral I still get some movement but at 135x turnover that's expected imo

Do you think sand would be a big problem?

If I changed mine right now I'd do a bigger grain size sand like reef flakes or special grade, but I don't think real fine grain sand would be very good. But that's just talking about the flow I have. Before I upgraded to the 93 I had the 30 and a 27 sharing a dc3000 with fine sand and there was no problems

Shallow tanks are the best! I like my 30 over my 93. And my pictures with my cell phone come out so much better on the 30
