Anyone else have a shallow tank they want to show off?!

Those 3 tanks are amazing looking! What are the dimensions on them?

36Lx12Hx16W. 8 inches of water depth in display.

Having a shallow, it's nice to be able to stare down from the top view and also very easy to work in. Hard part is coral placement in a mixed tank. Too high and you wont have much room for growth. Not all of your corals will like extra light all the time so it's harder to find low light areas.

You have to keep in mind that all your critters will run over your corals a lot more often since you have less space for them to swim, grazy etc. Even though a lot tend to stay on the same plane, it's still less room. I have two shrimp and they are like velociraptors climbing over everything to get at food, my hand etc. Likewise you really need to be selective in what fish you pick and avoid any form of jumper.

I found the aquascaping a lot easier and fun over my old bio cub. I found it easier to hit the focus points for my rock layout.

I definitely like shallower tanks. I do feel that 12" is the shallowest you can go especially anything over 30 gal to have a good balance of look and functional compromises. I do think 8" and 10" can be done, but you will have to deal with things like flow sand and lighting, especially if it's going to be a display and not a prop tank.

I think a lot also depends on what types of corals you want to display as well.

I do love shallow tanks, just not that shallow. If I ever upgrade to a larger tank, you can bet that it will have a shallowish look.

Yea, that is part of what I am worried about.

As long as you don't have fine sand or run your power heads too high your fine. I never have an issue with sand blowing. if anything its the power heads creating a vortex and drawing down air when I crank them up. My clowns move more sand than my mp10s. Since it's a small volume of water you don't need to push that much water flow around.
