Who is or has or plans on using miracle mud in their refugees? Pros and cons?

My lfs runs it on the 1200 gallon system and he's tanks look amazing. Pro if done right tanks look great and low maintance. Cons need high flow sump to be effective which can make the tank loud.

I don't have high flow in my sump and don't have a problem. I made sure to make my miracle mud 4 Inches deep, that way it's able to denitrify like a deep sand bed would..... Granted I have never changed it (been 2.5 years)..... So whenever nitrates start to creep, I'll change it out in segments.

Well i plan on running a mag 9.5 with my eshopps R-200 refugee so i should have about 800gmp after head pressure.

Also heard that 50% of the mud has to be replaced once a year. Which im ok with sense im only gonna run about 1.5" deep if i deside to use it.

Yes he replaces it half once a year or so and he has 10 to 20 that he does maintance on that run the system with no problem. He is in direct contact with the inventor of miracle mud.

I didnt use miracle mud. But did use garf grunge it did not go well just cycle it the normal way it only costs you time and you have that for free. Money well you can spend that on better things.

Wow stunning system... im sold on trying miracle mud... i like how it puts trace elements into the water that help color up the corals and growth.

I added Fiji mud for the first time on a system about 3 months after setup and saw a big difference in polyp extension! Just added to Top of sand bed in fuge:)

its not to shorten the cycle time... the best feature is the trace elements it adds to the water for corals and system health. Instead of running a 5" deep sand bed in the refugee you add 1" - 1.5" of the miracle mud and its supposed to be much better for the system. Some people claim to almost double the growth rate of corals and polyp extension.

no, there hasn't actually. I have not noticed any difference in my corals either, but when I first put it in the tank, it was a brand new tank.... so the first 6 months or so it was still establishing itself, so now I would be curious to see when I change some if there is a difference.

Also, to answer another question back, I would add it from start up If i were you, only because it takes some time to settle, and I have heard other people that seem to get the best results after the first month of it being in or so, even when changing theirs on established systems, they still said that after a month or so it really seems to kick in... I wouldn't know haha, but this is what I have heard...

I know in my tank I also didn't switch it out at about the year mark because I was upgrading tanks and I wasn't taking any of the old sand with me, but was able to use the same fuge, so I figured id bring all the good established bacteria with me if I didn't change it, and the new tank didn't cycle at all.
