Orbit Marine Better then Kessil

I have been reading a lot and researching and everything shows orbit marine LED is better then Kessil. I have found that their a lot cheaper also. They ahev great ratings and I dont see anything bad about them. Does anyone out there have a orbit marine LED?

I have an older one that I used for a year or two. That unit worked well but lacked intensity, the programming was pretty easy and I had no real complaints at the pricepoint for a fish only tank.

Great light if you want to keep fish or have a really shallow tank.

I don't think i'd say it's better. I just added a 1st generation Orbit Marine light as a supplement for my Kessil a80. The PAR figures they show in their manual are alright, certainly not great. And I'm also not a huge fan of how much purple comes through.

After testing with a par meter found the light not great for light loving corals. Ok for a fish tank

Less of a bargain when you realize you have to get 2 and double them up to get reasonable PAR levels for corals.

Their new set of lights looks really good. Even has a storm setting and a over cast setting. to of the list that I looked at rated them at number reef lights and had kessil at number 4. I am about to get me a Red Sea set up and I really think I am going to use the new set on it.

I don't know on that, I will dig deeper into that but even if I have to get 2 sets I can get them for $250. one set being $123 and I still would be cheaper as well. I will look more into that. I might get them cheaper if I can get the 2nd set without the controller. But thank you for bring that up for sure. The Kessil was going to be $250 just for 1 light and not including the controller and hanger. Is there another light you recommend?

which set did you test? Every list I have seen rate them at number 1, the new set of current orbit, over Kessil. And Kessil was rated at number 4.

IMO orbit marine is NOT better than kessil. The standard orbit marine is far inferior to kessils, the pro version on the other hand has a fighting chance as it puts out much more par. But for the color blending, shimmer, and par numbers, kessil wins hands down. again my opinion, take it with a grain of salt

That list isn't really fair though, you're comparing a orbit marine to kessils smallest 13 watt light, I wonder how it would own up against a 90 watt A360 or even a 40 watt A160. Or the big brother the 185 watt AP700

Watts per diode is about the only way to get a fair comparison on Led lights. A 48 diode running at 90 watts is going to be weaker than the same 48 diode running at 120 watts. At least most of the time.

True I have never ran my lights at full power though. Well maybe a few times I have. Even when I have it at full daylight setting I don't run it at 100%. So as far for me I wouldn't be running a 120W at the full 120W. the only difference with me I might have to run the 90 watt at full power.

My .02, without knowing the size of your tank and what your looking to do it's hard to say what's best. If you just want to do softies in a tank that's 12-16 inches deep the Current lights will be fine for you and they have some really cool features. There are a lot of folks on this forum that run them and have been very successful. If you want to have high light demand corals in a tank that is more than 12" deep you're going to want to step up from Current. AI Prime is a wonderful light and it has a light of the features and quality of the high end lights at a better price point.

That is the worst list I’ve ever seen for led comparisons lol. It’s like they asked people who have never had a reef tank. In my option, going cheap in the beginning is only gonna cost you more in the end. Almost none of the major led light makers are on that list of the “best” LEDs.

I am lucky in that I get to test a lot of LED lights in the real world club members tanks[emoji3]
That is one crazy list of LED’s [emoji3] I would suggest reading R2R closely. Members post their experiences here which I would trust more than a list like that. [emoji3]

Very true and that is the light red sea has with their NANO

mY new tank is going to be red sea reefer 170, 20" deep
