Orphek Atlantik v4

If you don't like shimmer then you need to go with a spaced out fixture like the Orphek or frankly chinese lights like reefbreeders or sbreef imho. Personally I don't see what's better about Orphek than a reefbreeders though... BTW I posted a pic in the mitras thread showing the light spill/spread from one unit. I think one would work horizontally but you might get more shimmer than you want.
It's not that I don't like shimmer, it's that I don't like how much theasier kessil puts off :) if I didn't want any shimmer I would gonly straight t5

I'm excited to see what you pick!

Clearly you have thought everything out and I'm sure either one is going to work great.

I guess it's the not working part that has you understandably concerned, haha.
I usually analyze and research things to death. Then kick that horse for days. And change my mind 4000 times. Then ultimately say screw it and go with my first idea. Then regret it while it's being shipped. Then I'm super pumped when it arrives and is awesome. Then a year and a half later start the process all over again because I like new things and like to tinker.

I don't know if you're considering Kessil AP700 at all anymore (I'm a little lost in what options you're still considering) but Brian (1SC) would tell you he's not impressed. He felt par was pretty low. IF you're considering it, might be worth reaching out to him to get his take on that fixture, as I don't have one myself.

Nope, just the orphek and the mitras

Update,

Orphek said they would ship me one right away after payment confirmed. Just got confirmation that GHL will get another shipment in 3 weeks time. I leave for the month of june for Military duty so if i do the switch before i leave it has to be orphek. If i wait until after i get back we will see what is available. I kind of wanted to switch sooner rather than later so i dont have to buy another set of t5 bulbs. But no matter what i need to get the basement figured out first. If the basement is expensive i may not be able to drop the cash on 2 mitras units as the cost is double the single orphek. hell i might not switch at all at that point.

As for the basement thing there was a downspout extension that had been knocked loose by the dogs, draining all the water from the gutters right by the corner of the house the leak was by. Since we have block basement this is apperently common. Talking with a few people that used to be contractors that i know to get their opinions before i go forward. From what i can tell online the 2 options are keep the water away from the house, install a dainage tile system or dig out the foundation and seal it with tar. Im more of a tech person than a construction person so i will have to research all of them
Be safe with your tour. God speed. It would be interesting to see what they can do. So far, my contact with them leave sour taste in my mouth.

Thanks for the info. I've been working with Ofir who has been great albeit hard to understand, I do believe he is the CEO however.

It's strange that they would just offer up the info that they had an employee that was stealing.

I know, all I inquired was about an upgrade and they came out telling me about that and that my lights might not been under warranty instead of asking for my information

@Dirtrider225

Can you Say... "Freak'n Laser Beam" :)

I have 2 V3 compacts on my 48" 120. I've been very happy with the fixtures thus far. They have good spread, not much disco effect. I like the operating system but I am an iphone guy. I have (knock on wood) not had to be involved with customer service at all. The lights are almost a year old and have been running flawlessly. Very happy customer here. I vote Orphek! Just another thought.... do any public aquariums run GHL lights on their systems? Well Orphek lights many public aquariums, which for me speaks volumes about their quality.

Thanks for your input!

I go to the minnesota zoo quite often (even dove in their tropical reef tank, one of 8 people ever to do so :) and they use MH on their reef system and A Kessil a360w on their frag tank. Not knocking orphek or anything, but i feel most zoos and aquariums run MH lighting as technically it is the "Gold Standard" at the same time, just becasue a public institute uses a company doesnt make it the best ;) Im in the military after all, we use all kinds of stuff when there are better products and companies out there.

On a side note to what you said im pretty sure i have the basement figured out, It seems pretty normal in this part of the world that if your downspout gets knocked loose that you can get water in the basement as the water is not taken away from the house. It also is typical that people do not seal the basement or something as it isnt really realistic. I did not know this, (first house after all) and am kind of surprised but so far the concensious is "make sure the water runs away from the house.." so at this point my fix costs all of $0 lol

Hi
I run 2 orpheks and 2 radions g3 &4 ,yes I have had issues with the orpheks and upgraded them to V3 but they grow corals and I like the spectrum.I have just ordered a V4 which is in shipping to replace the radions . I now deal with Ofir who responds to emails and sorted my issues although at my cost but at a reasonable price. Its the same with all suppliers they will fail at some point others wont grow sps so for me better the devil you know.

What issues have you been having? I know nothing is fallable and that even the best companies can have mix ups

Yes, MH is still the "Gold Standard" :)

How about they longer support older mobile app for Android v2.1b? I was told to get an iPad, but the app doesn't exist for it on the app store. Looks like couple of thousands of dollars for lighting that supposed to last for years are now worthless.

The issues were resolved to my satisfaction hence I have ordered another unit . I have also got 2 units mounted on DD rails I had to get longer SS screws and used nylon lock nuts.
