For the past 20 years we grow thousands of coral frags annually. This video shows our greenhouse system, we also have a large indoor system that we'll show in another video. It's difficult to visualize coloration under natural sunlight, but corals grown in our greenhouse have exceptional color and we transition them to our indoor system illuminated with LED lighting.

While I was watching it I did have a couple questions if you are able to answer. I may be looking at it the wrong way but I see a lot of what you are doing similar to traditional agriculture for food. Such as planting rice, corn, etc, right? We want to farm more efficient, use less water, energy, to grow more thus feeding more.

In the video you mentioned recently doing 100 - 150 frags (I think a leather) would that cause a spike in use of such nutrients like alk, calcium, magnesium, or others? Is this something you know will happen and dose or you test? Also wondering if you use something like the trident or just manually check as part of day to day checks? Or both? If the systems are linked together I think it would be cool to see how your tanks report data using a Trident.

I'm not too far away from UC Davis and they have a huge agriculture program there and Sacramento grows a lot of rice. Their continued work on efficiency on yield vs water is pretty amazing and for whatever reason seem to think of what you do when I ready about their work.

As others mentioned looking forward to the 2nd video covering the rest and whatever else you can think of over time :D Thanks!

With the overall size of the system we don't see any variation due to propation efforts. Manual testing is done daily. Supplmentation is via calcium reactor and kalkwasser drip. Parameters are maintained at natural saltwater levels as much as possible. Salt mix is ESV. Minimal automation, although interested in Mindstream if others report that it's accurate and consistent, not interested in anything that would dose because that would be too risky. Seasonal changes affect system more than other influences.

This is why we also have an indoor system with LED lighting, preacclimated :cool:

Do you have any tips or tricks for reducing algae growth, especially on the eggcrate racks? Are there certain inverts or fish you keep in the troughs to help?

Usual thing like in all systems: balance. I use a large skimmer and algae, plus carbon and kalk. Our greenhouse system has very few fish, just some utility tangs. Lots of assorted inverts.

Did you have the flow in the troughs adjusted when taking the video, or is that a fairly accurate representation of the surface agitation under normal operating conditions?
