Our little reef

It has been a long time since I posted, and a lot of water under the bridge since. There is too much to post it all, so let me start with a photo of our tank as it is at the moment and some readings. We are at no Nitrates, .04 phosphate, 9dkh, 430ca, ph 8.3 and 1350mg. There are two fish in QT perking. Our grow out tanks are full, and I am working on fixing the Frag system after some power failures.

worn down and tired. been putting in long days between work and the reef and I am tired. Been fighting the chord octopus and I think I have it untangled at least at one end.

Chiller kick off when I was in bed sick. I am not sure how hot it got, but when I was finally feeling well enough to get up, I caught the temp at almost 84. In the end our reef has paid a price. We have lost all our Cali Blue. This is the very reason I started the frag system. There are frags that will restart it, but it has sent us back months.

we have a 75g main display in the living room. There are 4 35g grow-out tanks. 2 35g frag tanks, 29 softy tank and a 55 observation tank. At one point we had a shop, so I have all kinds of tanks sitting around. Our home is small, and I would love to have a big tank, but there is no where to put it. Instead I have one heck of a fish room. I have tanks running HQI, ones running T5 and others on LED. I have them on various dosing solutions, all to find out what works best. I have a 37, another 55, two 40's and 4 more 35's stored down there. I love my reef, and I enjoy playing mad scientist. Surprisingly, all the arguing people do, in the real world as long as the tank is steady, everything seems to work more or less the same.

I have the numbers back to normal. 8.7 dkh, 420 ca and 1350mg. The temp is back to 77-78 like normal, and all I know to do now is wait and see. Needless to say, I will test more often. The problem is that my numbers stay in the same place, so I start to take if for granted. Fortunately I have built in enough protections that I have frags of the colonies I lost, so once I am sure it is steady again, I will start over.

well, after the drama of the ESV shipping issue I am glad to report the reef has recovered nicely. The Sour Apple Cap that I was sure I had lost is now green again. The frag of the Cali Blue looks good, and our Pro Corals Rainbow has colored back up. We have made a lot of changes recently too. There is a link here somewhere to our blog if you want to read about that. Just want to send out a good word about ESV and the support they gave me, along with a little update on how things are going.
