Overflow drain pipe noise

Decreasing the amount of water going down the single drain will raise the level of water in the overflow. When the drain is far enough under water, it will act as a siphon. Air will no longer be in the drain, and it will be silent. That's how reefers set up a Herbie or Beanimal drain system.

Yes, you need the emergency/trickle pipe to make it safe. Without the emergency/trickle drain, any blockage (even a partial one) risks flooding the display.
But wouldn't you want that? It will pull the water from the display tank and keep it silent at the same time. The issue would be if you restrict it too much and the return overcomes the drain.

Simple to me put a double 90 degree elbow on the pipe, and have it higher. A strainer fitting would be a nice touch as well. Mine came ready that way. Also drill a small hole in the top to stop creating a vacuum. That way the water will be above the inlet

Do not put a valve on a single drain tank.
A diy stockman standpipe is about as quiet as you can get
Got some washer fluid line from my dealership did this and has worked no more sound. Other then my sump being loud af sorry this is my first sump tank lol and I got it cheap 200 bucks 60 gallon 29gal sump

You have a valve?

How do you get the water over the drain pipe?
Wdym ? I have the pump going sucking the water to the return and it overflows through the grate and down the drain tube the hoses are there to block some of the swirl and with what water is fighting with the air going down the drain tube is being taken care of the line. Hard to explain I guess

It is not smart or safe to use a siphon drain without an emergency drain.

What sound is the sump making? Is it from bubbles from the drain or something else?

Editing comment sorry. It’s like a big bubble coming from the overflow down into sump the return pipe in the sump is in the water so it’s creating a big bubble or bubbles and making a noise I can’t explain if you want I can email the video of it or text it just message me a good way to contact you and I can send it when I’m off work

Sounds like too much flow through the drain system. Slowing down the return pump will fix the noise.

Any idea what I should do to help quit this drain definitely louder than my Liking Just got this tank setup today and I’ve tried to cap it and drilled holes through the cap that didn’t help I’ve read up on some other remedies Any ideas ?

Something like this for the top. My built in overflow has on and i do not hear it

What I have right now is working and it’s working good and easy to use clean if it fails to stop the noise then I’ll try this. But would this be okay on a single drain?

Wait guys, if you slow down the return pump, you also reduce the flow. I don't think you can reduce the flow freely, you have to guarantee a flow compatible with the skimmer, in example, to provide a good skimming.

If not, just use 200 l/h and you'll have a neearly silent tank but 200l/h is too low for almost any tanks bigger than a nano.

i agree. you can lower gph. with a ball vale or if your pump is adjustable. i think that pipe is common equipment on internal overflows though

lowering gph is NOT a solution.
if, for example, I need 200gph water excante from DT to Sump, based on my corals, skimmers and so on, lowering it to make it silent is NOT a solution.

A solution is to silence keeping the same gph. (and I don't know how, because even mine is absolutely noisy, but I don't have an overflow like you in US but a simple drain tube with the hole in DT)
