Overflow vs. standard sump

I feed my fish two or three times a day. every once in awhile I feed them frozen brine shrimp. Mostly I feed them little hard pellets, I can't remember the name and brand off the top of my head because I just changed to this food a few weeks ago.

How do I figure what my nutrient level is in my tank?

As far as fish and rocks go, I have one clown, one pajama cardinal, one bangjia cardinal, chocolate sea star, and a orange spotted goby. Rocks I dont have many of them and they are just arranged in the middle of the tank and stacked up.

As far as flow I have no idea. I have one power head. I got it with the tank. It is older and generic. I could not tell you what size or brand. What should my flow be around? What power heads would you guys suggest for my 55gal setup?

Those fish are pretty chilled out anyway. I'm not saying there isn't some underlying cause.

If your parameters are good, maybe you just need more exciting fish like an angelfish or a rabbitfish. Rabbitfish will help with algae for sure.

Some of my fish didn't like LED light too much especially at first.

I would build a small structure near where the clown likes to be if it is a corner and get it a friend.

Just some thoughts...Good Luck

Like another clown fish? Can it be a different specie of clown? Bigger or smaller than the one that is in the tank now?

Too much food, you are polluting the tank. I feed 5x a week skipping a day here and there and most of my fish are 10-12 years old, fat and sassy.
Frozen brine doesn't have much nutrition, kind of like popcorn for fish. Cut back on the frequency, feed only as much as they will eat in a couple minutes and research better more nutritious foods. Your fish and your tank will thank you.

As some said above your fish aren't terribly active fish.
Maybe a Lawnmower blenny or a small wrasse would add some activity to your tank.
Clowns aren't great swimmers, gobies tend to stay in their hole or around the rock work. Bangaiis just kind of float around and aren't big swimmers..
If you post a video, maybe someone could chime in about their behavior..

I'm thinking in the 30-50ish range. At that point corals aren't going to thrive and algae is going to become a problem. If you are running nitrates higher then that you are most likely doing something wrong.

Some of my "cleanest" tank were over run by algae. Looked like crap, but any test showed nutrients levels of 0 due to them being used up. This is where a fuge with macro or a display with macro can help.
