I have been battling with losing my euphyllia coral. It's always the same M.O the coral will be doing fine growing fullyeextending and splitting making new heads the out of nowhere start to lose its tissue where it meets its skeleton. Then it's history :( I've lowered my lighting, changed wate, changed salts I have tired low alk, high alk, different coral foods, I bought a red flashlight to watch at night and still no leads. Then I was told it was from the nopox I was using. So I got rid of that and have tried a few different ways to remove nutrients. First I tried purigen in a reactor also running gfo to reduce phosphates and I didn't see the results I wanted and it was alot more maintenance then I wanted so I switched to a Clearview algae scrubber. I haven't used nopox in about 6 months. I still have the same problem with the corals
So now the owner of the local fish store I go to is saying he recommends running ozone,to counter the chemical warfare between the corals. Of corse he has a reactor or generator for 375.00. I'm at a loss and desperate to try anything I've lost countless corals in the last year and a couple of months that have added up to around 2000 dollars, some really rare and beautiful. I have some pictures but not of all but it's always the same thing. Can anyone share their opinions or experiences with running ozone? will this benefit me or is it another waste of money?
#reefsquad maybe?

Have you checked for rusty magnets/hardware? Ozone will make your water crystal clear but I don’t think ozone alone is going to solve your problems.. I ran it for a long time years ago but you could always smell it in the house and I was afraid for my kids health at the time so I took it down. Something like chemipure or carbon will help with coral warfare and you may want to try running a poly-bio marine poly filter for a while.

I ran O3 when I was having an allelopathy issue with some carpet nems. Definitely worked in my case but the noise from the luft pump and reactor meant it wasn't a long term solution. I found large amounts of Purigen worked just as well. Water clarity with the O3 couldn't be beat.

Thank you for your response.
I ran about 600ml of purigen in my 112 gallon (total system) but I didn't see any change I was still losing coral and the attention the reactor needed was almost every other day, that's why I switched.

Thank you i was running ROX 2.0 carbon from BRS and I purchased a purple tang and stopped the carbon to try and rid the tang of hlle, it came with it.
I Haven't tried or herd of the poly-bio marine filter so I will look that up.

Awesome thank you i will get some and try it. I remember the first time this happend the store owner had me put some filters in my filter socks and do large water changes maybe it was the same but I'm not sure so I'll try

I keep them around for emergencies.. great for removing heavy metals and other pollutants, one of the original reef specific filtration pads I have used them since the 80’s

I'm not sure if you get the same level micron filtration by doing this...but stuffing some 100% polyester filling into a sock and using that has been just as effective for me. Not to mention you can get a TON of it at Michael's or wherever for $5.
So summary:

Cheapo filter sock: $2-3
Poly Filling: $5

So: $8 for around 50 refills.

have you sent a sample of water for ICP testing?

Ozone you will need an ORP monitor-APEX or something else. i have one on my system but I only run it some mights never during the day.

I would inspect & clean every magnet in your tank. pumps, frag racks, mag float, sea weed clip, hose clamp & other thing else that has metal

Yes icp testing is my next step.
I have an Apex so monitoring the ozone wouldn't be a problem. I am going through my tank right now as we speak. Thank you

If heavy metals were the issue would my fish show signs of distress?
All of my fish are fine besides the hlle on the tang but it came that way, I was assured that it would go away in a month with good diet and vitamins ( which has not been the case)

@Reefer Deez

If you do get one go with the smallest you can get.

I picked up went with a AquaMaxx 57mg/l and I wished I went with the 30mg/l or smaller

Lol yes I know but why go with the smallest?
