We used to have this problem in our neighborhood. Our homeowner's association got together and mailed package bombs at random to our neighbors. Everyone in the neighborhood knew not to open these boxes if they were still on the porch when we came home.

Thankfully i have not had this happen to me, and i buy a lot of stuff online.

I have seen an amazon package that was probably stolen around my neighbourhood. It was ripped apart on the side of the street with no contents, except a book. Figures the kind of idiots who would steal packages would never pick up a book. ;Bookworm :p

The biggest problem with this type of theft is that law enforcement typically can’t or won’t do anything about it. That’s why these lowlifes are so bold, they don’t care if you get a picture of their faces or even the license plate number. They know that nobody is coming after them. It’s a low priority crime where I live. The police just do not show up for petty theft.

Here's a twist to package pirating that happened to my neighbor. UPS delivered his package, then helped himself to my neighbor's chain saw that he had just laid down in his driveway and stepped into his garage to get something. He heard the truck pull in and out but didn't see it, but got video on surveillance camera. Oops! UPS now hiring in our area.

Hello,

So I had of all the things stolen some of my medical school books when I had to order them. Not only did I need them for class, but they sooo bloody expensive. Now I have had cameras installed, but very rarely do I order online anymore. I think this year grand total was three times, where one was a signature required, and the other coral orders.

But on the flip side I do see what happens to those people who get caught stealing the packages. We had a younger male that was transported to us. A home owner took a hammer to both of his hands. The guy had to have reconstruction surgery on both of his hands. He was only charged with a petit theft misdemeanor, and from the info provided to me (second hand info from just the officers we see in there often), that they had to file charges against the home owner also.

It’s terrible to think this is how our society has come down to. People steal packages because of some odd reason I don’t understand, other than they are mean people. In light of the home owner, I personally couldn’t ever do that to anyone not over a package. But it’s a huge problem, and again this is why I don’t order online often if ever. One company I have is Lego, but they require a signature on certain sets no exceptions, and they always ask you if you want it which is great.

Terribly sorry this happened to anyone (of course the op as well). I hope there is some resolution to it, and that it doesn’t prevent or cost you extra. If I can ask what did they take?

Our gated community has USPS mailboxes outside the gate. Not quite enough parcel bins though, especially during December. All too often they leave a slip and you have to go downtown to pick it up. So we've started leaving the gate open during daylight hours so they can deliver the surplus to houses. We're pretty rural so I doubt it's going to become an issue but you never know.

Yeah you cant pull that stuff now a days.... someone has it on video. I have three cameras myself and have caught someone trying to break into the back of my house.. then went around front and tried to steal an Amazon package ($7 plastic wall access plate). All on video [emoji58]

If anyone is looking for a DIY camera system, check out Reolink. They have great packages. The newest systems have nice cameras that can make out license plates if the car is close enough.

I have a hardwired Reolink and it works great. They also maintain and update the phone app. Its nice to be able to monitor deliveries.

Wait your camera was stolen? All of mine are drilled into brick and then silicone it would take tools to take it down.

Yeah- a 2 man team came down our street at 1am and took the cameras from my door and 3 other neighbors. Then a couple hours later, a car came up to my neighbors house and they cleaned out his gun collection.

All we got on video was a 2 second clip of a hooded dude putting tape over the lens, then noises for 10 seconds before disconnect.

Now, they just tape them up. One dude got jailed because he had possession of a door cam, id’d as someone else’s through its hardware MAC address. It’s serial number sticker was gone. They’ve adapted to just taping them up and not keeping the indirect evidence they were involved in federal crimes.

North nashville was really bad for this 3 years ago

I'm camera-less... but have been contemplating some sort of security camera arrangement. One of the things I'd already decided on was to mount the cameras high enough that you'd need a ladder to reach them. Still have other problems to work out...

I have 3 100+ lbs dogs. Don't need motion based video of them roaming the property.
Don't want to run ethernet cable or power cable to the locations I want cameras.
Don't want something pushing large video files up to the net, saturating internet bandwidth that I need for work.
It's DARK here... No city lights, no security lights. We like it that way. Must have infrared cameras.

So... Battery powered wireless attached cameras, waterproof, infrared, focus distance of 30 feet minimum, with a local disk based recording unit.

If anyone has a good review of something like that, let me know :)

WOW, that's insane!!!! I have a few mounted high it would take some kind of spray but yeah the doorbell could for sure could be taped up.

If you carry a low deductible and want to risk premium increases, home owners in my state covers it.

Ring gave me a free one. They cover it. Was less of a problem before I moved- they started taping them up instead of taking them

Unfortunately for "small" items there is ZERO chance of someone getting caught without video evidence. Had a chainsaw stolen a few years ago and the cop asked for a description of the person and vehicle, without which I would have to check local shops and sites like craigslist etc. So naturally I went full paranoia placing cameras everywhere. Recently my neighbors work truck was stolen "big construction truck with decals and lights" I caught the accomplice vehicle on my cameras and gave a full description with license plate didn't matter. But in 3hrs the local PD didn't do any investigation outside his driveway. Randomly I saw the truck on my way into work on the side of the highway and less than half a mile from the state police station, they were never even contacted... USELESS

Look at Blink. Wireless and battery operated. Only record when armed

Personally I avoid buying online in the first place. I go to my lfs. Fortunately its the biggest pet store in the United States and I can find anything. I don't understand why people find the need to steal.

My friend has an Arlo system. pretty nice for up close "porches/single room" applications. They are wireless and battery operated with DVR and push notifications. Best part is they are completely wireless so you can mount them anywhere
