I just bought two last month.

I bought one just a month ago or so.

Maybe twice a year. Just a good habit. It runs constantly and gets a build up of gunky stuff that I noticed affects the performance. I literally had to add 10 gallons of water after cleaning it the first time because it was turning that much more water through the system
