Hello reefer,

My tank is 9 months old and I have been adding acro steadily for the last 3 months,

I have couple high ends, and more coming this week,

Can someone PLEASE, let me rent their par meter for 24 hours??

I am full time college student with no job, so its hard for me to put $500 deposit, But I will work with you.

Can anyone help me out please

I thought WAMAS had one for members to use but they are slow to respond to anything, could barely find someone to take my membership payment.. lol.

Its crazy, there are sooooooo many memberss here and no one can help another reefers.

I only need it for 1 day.

I can ship it back next day

Anyone???

Have messaged @SOCOM 3 times, but no reply.

You should peobably get a part-time job. I was in the same boat as you...although I just graduated. I've used basically all of my discretionary funding on this hobby.

I have no doubt there may be people willing to assist, but not to the extent of loaning a $500 meter with no context or knowing you as a person.

If it's not practical to get a job, then maybe have your parents out up the deposit for you, and pay them the rental fee only.

Have you tried using a lux meter in a zip bag?

Divide by 60 to get a round about par number. Not as pretty and will have some issues near the edges. But not bad if just want to know if a type of coral will get enough light at this height.

I just ordered that one. I have a BRS par rental coming to me on Thursday. So I will see how close this is compared to the $400 unit
Can you keep us updated? I'd be very curious to know how they compare.

both units are coming today. So i will post up my numbers comparing the $14 lux meter vs the Apogee MQ210 useing the LUX output devided by 60 from what was posted earlier.
I will be pretty excited if the LUX meter is within 10% of the apogee since that would be good enough for measuring in the future to get enough of a rough estimate

ok initial testing.
My radion sure wasnt putting out as much as i thought. So I had to ramp that up a good bit to start.
So towards the top of the tank I was getting 285 on the one coral with the Apogee. I tested it with the cheap LUX meter and it read dead on at 285 IF you divide by 30 not 60.
I tested other areas and it was pretty much within like 5-10 par towards the top. as I got lower it was off a little more but I am going to say it was because of the baggie wrapped around it interfering. I am going to use the meter to test some more to double check but it looks like if you use this meter that i bought and divide by 30 it is pretty much spot on to the Apogee unit. Now that is with my radion. I dont know if another light would act different. I doubt it though. For what it is. the amount of a difference it would seem that it would work just fine to get the lights into the range needed.

ok I didnt do every spot as i did with the Apogee. got tired of sticking hand in water and I think i got enough readings to feel sure it was consistent.
This was set in M mode to 20,000 since the numbers never went higher than that and it was the only way I could get it to keep reading. If I put it in max mode as soon as it hit a number for a few seconds it would lock it and have to turn on and off to read again. Divided by 30 and this is the results.
The red numbers are the Apogee and the green are the cheap LUX meter

thats pretty interesting. I might just have to snag the lux meeter. I wounder if I could just seal it up using a vacume sealer I use for freezing meat and sousvide cooking.
