Got this at a petco believe it or not. Lol wanting to know what kind it is. Great algae eater and no interest in corals.

First thoughts would be either the Striped Parrotfish (Scarus iseri) or the Princess Parrotfish (Scarus taeniopterus) - any white light pics though? It's really hard to see with the blue.

The best I’ve got , can get better one tomorrow. Thinking princess tho

I disagree with the Princess Parrot (Taeniopterus) as it’s not got enough of the white striping to be a juvenile and it’s not got enough of the adult colour to say that it’s past that stage.

Do you know the place of origin? (Indo/Australia, Africa/Madagascar, Caribbean/Florida, etc.)

I have no clue it did come from petsmart they had it labeled as a wrasse . I’ve been searching and I’m leaning towards the striped parrot. Wanting to get another one for my reef tank.

I personally think it’s closer to Scarus iseri however it could also be from another genus as Parrotfish aren’t all in one genus and are spread over 2-3.
The issue with iseri is it has two stripes as a juvenile. Could well be were both wrong. There are too many species within scarus and each has multiple life stage patterns/colors. This may be a difficult ID until it becomes an adult.

According to google this is a Scarus iseri. I could have sworn its a Thalassoma quinquevittatum but what do I know :face-with-tears-of-joy:

That yellow by the pectoral fin again looks like a juvenile transitioning to initial phase taeniopterus to me, together with how it is striped. Probably going to have to keep it a while and see how the colour changes over time.

Thanks hopefully it will be clear to see soon

Could you identify what shipment it came on in? Were there atlantic blue tangs, royal grammas, yellowhead jawfish there too? Or no Caribbean fish?
I can not, the salesperson didn’t know a whole lot.
