Paul's 90 Gallon Build

It is coralline algea...and yes, you can scrape it off of your glass if you wish. Since it is good to have it growing, I allow it to grow on the back glass but I scrape my sides to prevent it from spreading to the front. That is also where all of the color on the rocks comes from.

My clown pair finally decided to be friends with my anemone...hooray!

I noticed that my anemone was closed up for most of the day yesterday...not fully closed up but much smaller than usual. Now today I find this...2 nems.

Nice job what is ur flow as I have he same 90 gallon tank and what do u do about the dead spot in the back left corner

dang I cant get coraline to grow like that, good job and beautiful tank

Thanks for the compliments...I've always had good coralline growth. It was only back in April when most of these rocks were white.
For my flow, I use 2 Jebao PP-8 wavemakers (turned almost all the way up) and the Jebao DC9000 return pump (half way up). For the back left corner, I haven't had too many issues with it being a dead spot. I have my return split with one pointing straight out and then one curving back towards that left side.
Here's a daytime pic that I just snapped:

Some people might disapprove of this post, but here goes. I'm been dealing with some horribly ugly green palys that multiply far too fast and are overtaking many other zoas. I'm not sure what they came in on, but in a matter of a few months I had 100+ heads of them. I've been unable to peal them off, and I was worried about cutting so many since they'd likely just grow back. After some research I found the answer...vinegar.
I bought a syringe and needle and have been injecting a very small amount of white vinegar into the heads or stalks of the palys. The palys die within a few hours and then I do a 10% water change making sure to syphon the water from all around the dying palys. So far I've wiped out about half of them and the small amount of vinegar (combined with water changes) has had no ill effects on the rest of my coral...even the ones right beside the palys that I'm working to clear out.

Hopefully I'll have them gone within a couple more weeks and then can use the space that they were taking over to put something beautiful that I actually want to have grow in my reef.

Tank looks nice!

I think many of us have felt your pain. I don't know that I'd heard of using vinegar before. I think culling a coral is a reasonable and sometimes necessary part of the hobby. Best of luck.

The tank looks great, btw! :-)

Thanks mdbannister. The vinegar has worked great so far - I had read about people using it to kill aptasia is where I got the idea.

I forgot to take a pic before I started clearing these green palys, but so far the vinegar has been wonderful. Below are a couple of pics.

Here they are on 11/29 after injecting them once.

And here they are just a new minutes ago.

As a follow-up to my vinegar injections to kill palys...here is the same spot today. As you can see, I've almost completely wiped them out.

Here are a couple of nice zoas...definitely won't be injecting them anytime :-)
