I see this more and more (or maybe I just notice it more and more). What do you think about "pre-ordering" frags. Specifically, paying up front to have the coral cut, healed, then finally sent to you.

why not? If the buyer is aware of it, I sometimes do it and if the buyer is not happy after I show a picture of the frag I would happily refund his $$..

I think if the seller has the capacity to heal up the frags after theyve been cut then he should go ahead and do that, THEN post for sale.

+1 on WYSIWYG. Only way i buy online.

i think fish n frags did this and peeps got screwed. i could see a small deposit but no way paying for the whole frag to heal and such. Then again it depends on your relationship with the person/vendor.

There are more than a few corals I have passed up, even ones that I have been searching for, because they have that clause.

Given the crap I just had to take care of regarding this type of issue (FNF) I say frag it post a WYSIWYG picture with the price next to it! Nothing against those who operate on a prepay basis, I never like to make things harder on myself than they have to be!

If you do go forth with this type of prepay then I think that weekly updates with a high quality pic should be a norm!

well i agree it depends who it is and how much u trust them. I usually buy a crapload of my chalices from bigian....their not WYSIWYG, some of them are but some of them arent but i trust ian in that he will get me a decently size frag. I got my monster mash and paid for it to be cut. I never saw a picture but when i got the product i was very happy. I like to see pictures of the colonies of what chalices will loook like or what they look like currently but with ian i know i am gonna get a good size frag on what i pay and not some tiny little thing.

ive bought lots of stuff from fnf mostly acans and never had a problem im sad there gone for now. but anyways i only buy wysiwyg.. if your wanting to sell something and not sure if its gonna sell do what ive seen alot of people do on here.. the gauging interest threads...

Okay here's the thing i don't understand about the pre-sale. I understand it when its' a hobbiest, not wanting to cut until for sure there going to get there price and a buyer lined up. What I don't understand is why vendors are doing this? There obviously going to sell it. And in most cases of these corals which are being presold, they will sell in moments of being posted as a WYSIWYG frag. I just want to understand the thinking behind this? In some cases thousands of dollars are going to the vendor before a frag is even cut. I'm not saying this is shady or a bad business practice. I just want to understand the thinking behind this? We all know what has happened with several cases of this ... But almost all other cases of this , both buyer and seller has been happy. Personally i have prepaid for frags but i wouldn't mind the thinking behind it.

i dont think vendors should do this.. i was speaking from the hobbiest stand point

I have no problem with it, but obviously it depends on the seller, I have a few chalices and lps that I will sell if someone wants, but I don't want to cut it and then try and sell a frag and nobody wants to pay market value or what I feel its worth so I am stuck with either dropping the price like a rock or having to find space to hold and care for it till who knows how long. Sometimes I see things selling like hot cakes and then all of a sudden the same stuff is way cheaper and still nobody is buying, if I am going to make a 10 frag sps pack, same thing, I want to know its gone and not gonna sit on my frag tray for 6 weeks taking up real estate until I am willing to sell it for dirt cheep just to get rid of it.

I'm not a fan of it. I like WYSIWYG and once I buy, I like to have it shipped.

I do not like it.....cut it and if you do not sell it.....wait and grow it out and then sell.

JUST MY THOUGHTS.

Its ok to pay if you trust the seller. I am doing that tonight with somebody i trust that has the best store :) you know who you are wwc :crossedlips:

I would think it would be up to the buyer. I'm sure all sellers would love to get money ahead of time. It would have to be somebody I had purchased from in the past and had a history with like most have said. If it was someone local, I just think how I would be if I was selling it. If it was somebody I knew, I couldn't ask them for money up front. I would just take them at their word that they want it and will buy it and hold it for them.
