Hi PCygni,
Actually your questions were never dumb. Interesting yes..... but never dumb.....(-: I have worked with hundreds of new hobbyists over the years and I really enjoy that part of the hobby - when someone is excited as you are your son are but just a bit ( or a lot ) unsure of how to proceed - helping with taking an idea and creating a small piece of the ocean in your home. Truthfully helping new aquarium - or soon to be - aquarium owners is the best part of my job. I am really impressed with the amount of detail and advance planning you put into this build. When you get your two DM-155e and get them over the tank - send pictures to [email protected] and I will put them up on our site. Rick
So I've acquired most of the equipment I need and now I'm getting down to the nitty gritty: putting live rock and live sand in the tank, filling it with water, and starting the cycle. Seemingly a somewhat straightforward process until you begin to embark on it for the first time. My original plan was to use the BRS RO/DI unit to fill up 4 RubberMade containers of various sizes to get the 100 (or so) gallons I need start my system. One of the problems with this is my RO/DI unit is upstairs which necessitates me bringing down 5 gallon buckets and pouring them in my containers. Although this is a pain I can pretty much live with it. My main concern is the time element. At an hour and half a bucket and given my work schedule this could take days if not a week to complete -- and that doesn't include evaporation, I'm not in a huge hurry but I'm thinking there must be an easier way. I guess my question is would it be permissible to augment this process with distilled water from supermarket, or should I stick exclusively with RO/DI water?
No. I had to put the sump in through the top. Once it's full of water it's not coming out. First lesson I learned in this build is get a tall stand that is wide open.Question.. Can you take the sump out with out removing anything? Will it fit though the doors?
Thanks
You are right, and I have decided to go exclusively with my own RO/DI water. Got some great tips and advice on Reef Central on how to streamline the process a bit. Just going to have to 'bite the bullet' and do it right.Oh you've been so meticulous. Why rush it now? I'd stick with RODI water only. It's the foundation of your whole system. The rest is just supporting cast. From one novice to another, it's looking great so far.

I like the tank, but the stand was a waste of money.. To short to really work in, but it is what it is.Yeah, hoping for the best.I have the same one and set up and I have a 20 gallon long sump and if it leeks it will a really nightmare to fixI like the tank, but the stand was a waste of money..
