I aim for 6.7 to 7.4dkh myself, I have for years, and if nutrients dip usually a safe place to be. My happy space, lol. Being in Florida, the windows been open alot, so definitely a natural bump in ph

i Might keep lower alk cause it seems the corals color up better but I can’t prove that either. Your corals colors are always popping

Yesterday included sand removal, aka nitrate source, and rescape, sort of...
Main display reduced in corals, but all in all, aestecitally sound, at least to my eyes. Here's what I came up with.

I had to also finish up on the backup tank, invariably some broken corals, so lots of frags, lol

Ahh, music to my ears Perry. Most don't like the "look" of BB, even those who are tenants of the method, but there is something visually appealing to me about it... Perhaps it's the reduction of clutter in the bottom, or maybe the way your eyes naturally focus on the scape/corals....

For functionality purposes, bb is the path of least resistance, lol. The sand was just accumulating nutrients, then a year later, began to release. My new tank, IM 36x36x20" shallow cube will be BB. That said, I have a few months to transition the biome, then a simple swap add bacteria, call it a day

Glad I got those aquadomes for mounting, looks good on the bottom.
The removal included massive water change, I did 3, 15 gallon changes, and another 5 gallons this morning. The rock is loaded with detritus and will need constant blowing off to get nutrients stable. I did however lower both P04 and N03 significantly.
Before- 28ppm N03 .18ppm P04
After- 16ppm N03 .07ppm P04
That said, I added some phosphorus and will monitor, I like it at .10-.16ppm.

Yeah, crazy how much of a chore it is to keep, lol. I have been running 2 liter siporax and 2 liters AF Life Bio Fil in a reactor for a couple months in anticipation. I thought the addition of Life Bio Fil run active would lower N03, but the sand was loaded. That said, I did try, and do like sand, but it's so much easier bb.
I have already stabilized N03, only a 1.5ppm rise this week, usually 10ppm rise. The idea of slowing water changes is quite appealing. P04 has gone down slightly, but still in the butter zone

P04- .14ppm, N03-16ppm

I just fragged many colonies and removed around 10 colonies, lol. Yeah things are growing for sure

3.6 liters dosed during dark hours of fully saturated kalkwasser and 25ml per day OF ESV 2 part per day, lol

Thats one thing I never got into was surfing,I have always been a inshore/surf fishing guy.
