Petes 40 barebottom... Letting it all hang out!

Oh they're moving it alright. I have to be careful where I point them to keep water off the floor haha. I do have them wide open though.

So I have a couple new roommates. These guys seem to be doing well.

So after having fish and a cuc the 2 wp25 aren't enough to lift all the waste off the bottom. I have 5 feet of 1/2 inch acrylic rod that I'm going to make legs for the rocks to sit on. If this doesn't work I will have to add more flow. There's lots of options when it comes down to it. I have thought about using maxi jets to stir the bottom of the tank. I was also thinking I could hook them to my controller and have them come on a few times a day. The problem with that is the maxi jets will wear out quickly being turned on and off frequently. Another way would be to have the maxi jets stay on constantly and have the wp25's turn off all night. I will have to find out if the wp25 will remember which setting it was on if I kill the power. One more option is to get more wp25's or wp10's. I'm hoping raising the rocks off the bottom will remedy this.

If you put it on else mode and set them both to max speed it will lift everything off the bottom.

What about lowering one of the WP25 or maybe moving one behind the rockwork down low blowing at the base? I'm running BB on my 40B as well and only have one MP10 running reefcrest so I definitely get detritus under my rocks but I siphon it out with water changes...I just picked up a WP25 but I'm still trying to decide on placement.

Thats pretty weird, cause if I do what I said it blows everything off the bottom with ease. Oh and I only have about 1" of sand if that.
Here is a pic so you can see placement

I have no sand and stuff is collecting on the bottom. Its mostly tiny sand like bits of rock being broken off by the crabs. There is also waste from the crabs. I have both wp25 about 3" from the bottom and pointing down. I think once I lift the rock off the bottom and get some putty to attach the rocks to where they're spaced out more it will help.

Not to much going on with the tank lately. I added the first fish a couple weeks ago and kinda kept it quiet to keep from being blasted because people may have thought I stocked too quickly. Yesterday I caught the royal gramma out of my frag tank and threw it in there. I checked the nitrate and it has zeroed out. I emptied the skimmer for only the second time since it has been set up. For the first two weeks or so I left the plug out of the skimmer so it would drain back into the tank. When I emptied the collection cup I was impressed on the performance of the skimmer and the amount of mud it had in it.

You should by a wp-10 and aim it at the bottom in the back corner! And the tank is looking good so far!

I was seriously considering this, but a wp 25 is cheaper.... I do have 2 maxi jets laying around not being used also.

That's not a bad idea. They do make that new dual controller for two jebaos now too. Or do the maxi jet setup and get through it on a timer to come on 5 or 6 times throughout the day. It shouldn't shorten then life of one that drastically

Yeah, I thought about running a maxi through the apex, turning on during the day and off at night.

This tank took a turn for the worse. The sump wasn't built the best and the baffles broke, as well as the ato reservoir. I have had the ato part fixed for a while and fixed the baffle yesterday. During all of this there was an ich outbreak. I decided to go the hyposalinity route which resulted in killing off all the snails and the fish :-(. It has been empty for well over a month now and its time to stock back with fish. They will be here Thursday, and I went back with what I started with (almost) line spot flasher wrasse, carpenters flasher wrasse and a yellow eye kole tang. ATTN TANG POLICE!!! A YELLOW EYE KOLE TANG IN A 40 GALLON!(blast away :-P) other than that its going ok. I'm sure after leaving three sump dry for a coulee days I'm going to have another green algae outbreak. It cleared up, I fixed the ato, it came back, cleared up, and now fixed the baffles. I haven't been ghost feeding lately because I added another 8 lbs of uncured tukani rock about 2 weeks ago. I'm sure there wad enough die off from the rock to keep the biosystem alive and well. The curve 5 skimmer has proven to be quite the beast! It always has a thick head and I'm really liking that.

Gave this tank a bunch of attention today. I filled the sump back up, worked on scape, cleaned the skimmer, made and placed a frag rack and brought the salinity up to where it should be. The sump was full for maybe 5 minutes and I heard a rattling so I figured something wasn't right. I took a look and the cap to the collection cup on the skimmer was bouncing. So the skimmer is overflowing and must need to be broken in a little. Nitrates tested 0 and I'm hoping the addition of all the fish tomorrow won't mess with it too bad. Guess we will wait and see...

The fish came in this morning and the tang had ich! This is not what I expect from live aquaria at all! Into the 20 frag tank he went until the ich is gone, then I will move him to the 40. On the positive, he has plenty to eat in the 20 lol. Both wrasse look pretty good so I threw them into the 40. I guess if they break out in ich within the next 2 weeks the 20 will be a little crowded for a while

The lights came on today and I only saw one of the new wrasse. I figured the other one was still resting in a rock somewhere. I threw some food in there to draw him out, and after a couple minutes I started to look closer. That's when I noticed a huddle of hermits in the back of the tank. I knew then what was going on. So I reached in to have a battle with the hermits to get the wrasse out. I'm flippin hot about this order from live aquaria! The tang came in the bag with ich, and the line spot died within 24 hours. I choose to pay their high price because this isn't supposed to happen with this company. Sure it will be refunded, but that still does not get the fish I want. I'm sure the hermits were happy about it though.
