I was looking into getting a Phosban Reactor for my 38g reef system and was just wondering if they really made a difference with the phosphates, and if they were actually worth putting the time and effort into? Also, which would be the best for the best price? Any info on them will help greatly! Thanks!

i'd go with an Avast reactor (they're a sponsor here), I'm using one for my ecoBAK pellets. Had a two little fishies reactor in the past and it leaked.

I run 2 on each of my tanks. One has carbon and the other has GFO. They are the two little fishes brand. IMHO they are important to have in an aquarium.

A reactor, whether it be a TLF branded one or not, is a very nice addition. Even if you don't plan to run GFO in it, you can use it for carbon, and I think it makes a big difference. I'm currently running a BRS Dual Reactor with GFO and Carbon and love it. I have also run the TLF Phosban Reactors as well and had no complaints. I would, however, order a few extra sponges to help prevent GFO/Carbon from getting out and into your tank.

Sorry, I just noticed the TLF reactors have been updated since I bought mine so I can't speak as to the quality of the current version.

Any reactor, as long as it gets the job done, works. I have the Commodity Axis reactors and they work great. One has Katalyst biopellets the other for carbon. TLF reactors are great and I also like Nextreef. Never used Avast but I've heard good things on here.

I run two TLF.... with GAC and GFO media from BRS. Adding GFO wasn't that big of a change to my routine maintenance. For what it's worth, my phosphates dropped after starting GFO. I also remember realizing that I was rarely needing to clean film algae of my glass. It's wierd when your routines change :}

Running brs dual reactor here, like it a lot. I had a kent reactor and the brs units are much easier to work with

Sent from my Droid because I'm bored at work!

I stopped running it 24/7 a while back with the vodka dosing. I usually only run it once a month for a few days. I have to admit that I haven't ran it for 3 months......but everything is going well.

Thank you all very much for the input and advice! My fiance is looking for one more thing to get me for Christmas and I will definitely be going for a TLF reactor! One more thing, I was hearing a lot about the GFO media and I'm not too sure about what kind of media that is and what it removes, could someone please fill me in on that and how often it should be changed? Thank you all greatly, that is why I love this website, a lot of kind people who are willing and love to help!

I run carbon and gfo in the same reactor, just put the gfo on top of the carbon and separate them with extra sponges. I change them both every three weeks this way.

Gfo is granular ferric oxide, pretty much looks like rust chunks. It's used to absorb posphates. I buy it by the gallon from bulk reef supply fairly cheap. Change when po4 starts to go back up, about every 3 weeks for me.
