Is this pinched mantle?

Tough to get a clear picture. Front right that mantle is curled and doesn't cover scute. Noticed it 2 days ago.

Okay. It also looks like it's getting worse though in comparison to yesterday. How long should I let it go before needing to intervene?

If the edges really get frilly and the mantle worsens in another day a freshwater dip might be in order. Make sure nothing is irritating it.

Ok, will do. Nothing around it all. The clam looked a bit off at the store but for $20 bucks figured it was worth a shot. Was okay for a few days and still super responsive to light etc.

I personally wouldn't touch it. Clams sometimes ruffle up their mantel for days at a time. It’s been a very long time since I have seen real pinched mantle. How long have you had the clam? Do you notice any white growth at the top of the shell? Is it attached to anything?

Just keep an eye on it, you'll notice if its pinched mantle as it will worsen.

1 week. It attached kind of sideways to a rock. The mantle curling has been slightly getting worse. No growth on it at this moment.

Mine was experiencing the same, the only thing I did was run GAC and replaced it every week. After a few weeks it was back to normal again. I was going to do a freshwater dip as my last resort.

So I think the clam may have been getting to much flow in that area. I moved it more towards the front of the tank and it looks a lot better. Not sure if there is enough light in that spot though.

So it looked like it was doing better but seems to have taken a turn for the worse. The ruffling has extended to the entire front and to the side. It's still opening and reactive so not sure if a dip is in order yet?

I don't recommend often but I'd say dip it. If its healthy enough it can survive the dip just fine. Once the clam is in a very poor state it can be to much for the clam to handle IME. Our large squamosa did great with 2 dips in a few year span. James Fatheree has a good write on the proper procedure for a freshwater dip. I hope it pulls through.

Survived the dip but it stayed completly shut the entire time? Is that normal? Left it in there for 30 minutes. Opened back up pretty quickly but the front of the mantle looks worse. Not sure if that is normal or not? Still very responsive, etc.

Looking a lot better. Still has some pinching and curling in the front. How often should it be dipped.
