Anybody have any ideas on what would cause pink water in a BB QT? It happened overnight. Nothing has been dosed except prazipro 4 days ago and 5 drops of Microbacter daily. It is a 10 gallon tank. I did a 50 percent water change, added some carbon, and UV. I have seen green water before but not pink lol.

Free floating blenderized Cyanobacteria maybe? Anyway be careful lots of things can kill you.

I have had that in the past and i can say i put it down to the fact that my No3 is very high and I have some purple like algae
on some of my rocks.

Dumb questions probably. Does the QT look pink? Was there anything in the bucket before that was red? Could it be a reflection from the outside picture on the bucket? I like to take a styrofoam cup and use that to tell my water color. Also you said that it was bare bottom but it looks like sand on the bottom of the bucket. Was that bucket used for another tanks water changes?

Thanks for all the responses. To answer all the questions........yes, I now have a UV sterilizer in the QT tank. Wasn't one before, although it hasn't made a difference as far as the pink. Carbon has made no difference either....only water changes have helped. No, no cyano in the QT....it is pretty sterile other than one piece of live rock from my DT and some PVC. Yes, the QT did look pink, and got worse daily. At first I didn't notice it all that much but day by day got worse until I finally changed half of the water. Yes, that is my water change bucket that I use for my DT as well which is where the debris came from. It is very strange lol. Parameters are all spot on and it doesn't seem to affect the two fish that are in there.

Very strange. Never have heard of or seen anything like it. To me it is too pink to be anything like cyno I would think if it was cyno it would be more brown maybe I'm wrong. Last dumb question do you use RODI water?

I do use RODI water.....the water from my QT is water change water from my DT.

The only thing I can think of is if the DTs water is dosed with anything. It mixed with what the QT tank is dosed with and did it. Only explanation I have.

Mine was in the RO only highlighted when corals dying found by changing resin to colour change and all filters and eventually a new machine it happened 3 times in a month after authorities carrying out maint on pipes the drinking water had a bitter metallic taste .2nd pic shows after replacing new filter unit and all new resins and membranes after just 75L run off .You need an icp

ICP was just ran on DT water....everything came up within range except iodine, which was low. I have kids, but the youngest is 13.....nobody goes anywhere near the tanks....plus the QT is in an unfinished section of the basement which they all avoid. There are two small wrasses in the QT but both seem unaffected. The DT is only dosed with 2 part and Acropower.......I don't think either of those would react with what I dosed in the QT but anything is possible at this point lol.
