I just received a pair of crosshatch triggerfish on Tuesday. I had a QT setup and ready to go, but the fish ended up being WAY larger than I was told. I had them in there for 24 hours, but the tank just couldn’t handle them. I rolled the dice and threw them in the display.

The pair seems to have settled in quite well. Both eating very well. I noticed today what I guess to be a bacterial infection. I have quite a few meds on hand, but would like some advice and identifying and treating. You’re help is much appreciated.

You can see the spot behind the male’s right eye.

Yeah, I figured as much. It very faint just with the naked eye, but there’s something going on. Can I just start feeding metro to start?

I'd start with FWD. This way you can rule out flukes and go from there. Process of elimination.

Then feed metro + furan + kana + focus for 2-3 weeks to address any and all bacterial issues.

Did FWD on make and he did well through it. Spot is still visible and now female has similar spot. Going to try FWD on her. Was thinking of doing a dip with Ruby Reef Rally. My blue hippo Tang got sick in the spring and that seemed to cure it right up. Does that sound like a prudent plan?

Another pic of affected areas.

Super nice guy and gal.

If they are eating, not scratching, swimming into power head, flashing around, I may just feed good and observe. It’s only been a short time. Maybe turn down lights or shorten period for a bit. Basically reduce stress and feed healthy like Lrs or fresh like black worms or fresh frozen clams. May just be stress and something they can fight off once settled in

That last pic can see some white dots, possibly ich. They are pretty big and look healthy. I would still monitor for a day or so

I wouldn’t be surprised if ick. I did my best to keep the tank ick free, but I’m pretty sure it’s in there. So definitely a possibility. They are nice and fat and healthy. Eating very well. Feeding a mix of LRS, mysis, and blood worms mixed with metro, focus, selcon now.

New pic. It has gotten significantly worse overnight. I’m going to do freshwater dip, the ruby reef rally dip, and then into QT. Going to try to get CP from my LFS tomorrow. Just going to have to do daily water changes. Hopefully my 33 gal QT won’t stress them out too much.

If anyone else has any other ideas, please let me know.

Fish have been in QT for 5 days now with CP. The male’s eye looks pretty rough, but looks better than it did a couple days ago. Going to continue with CP for at least 2 more days. The 33gal QT is pretty small and I’m having to do 40-50% water changes daily.

Pic of male. Please let me know if you feel like I’m headed on the right course. Thanks!

Male died. Was sitting on my couch and heard a bunch of splashing in the tank room. Ran in there and saw male trying to jump out of the tank and trashing all around. All color was gone from the fish. He thrashed around for about a min then pretty much just died.

Not sure what happened, but upon closer inspection there’s quite the hole in the eye. Very disappointing, to say the least. Over the last year, I’ve lost 8/16 fish in QT. Very frustrating.

Female seems to be on the mend, but who knows. Kind of losing faith here.

So sorry...was a beautiful fish.... Hope the female pulls through for you.

Anyone have any opinions on what is aligning them? I would like to learn from this, if anything so I can better handle these situations in the future?
