Ok Mark, didn't mean any disrespect ! Nothing wrong with small tanks ! Consider if only 4 gls & one week into this. You could easily , rinse the sand real good & start again! I bet the cloudiness would go away ! Is there a lfs (local fish shop) near by?

yeah i will remove my substrate completely... i realize it’s easier to clean if i only have live rocks and sadly i only have petco all of the lfs have gone close the nearest lfs is 2 hr drive

i start over and i get mixed reading of salinity using the floaty arm hydrometer when i check it its 1.022-23 when i put it on my tank its 1.020 the nitrate kh and ph seems to be stable and fine

There are several options for a tank like yours. If you are having problems with sand in a four gallon tank then id just go bare bottom. The rock and inverts will fill that space out before you know it. Get a few Rock flower anemones and great a garden that will cover the bottom and eat anything that touches the bottom so you get a nice live substrate and clean up crew at the same time.
