This is driving me insane… whenever the skimmer is on my tank just pumps out micro bubbles and it’s so dang ugly.

I have the reefer 170 if anyone is familiar with the plumbing setup.

thanks!

What skimmer do you have? If it's whenever the skimmers on it's likely the skimmer and nothing to do with the plumbing.

It’s the bubble magus curve 5 that I have.

I feel like I might have my setup wrong? I ask if people are familiar because I have the skimmer AND the return pump in the same chamber as the filter sock, and wonder if that may be an issue?

Oh really, I'm not familiar with red sea tanks but I can't see why that'd be an issue some people don't have any chambers and just a tank as a sump with all their equipment in it. Im not really familiar with the skimmer but If when the skimmer is off there are no bubbles, something might be off with it. I would double check it's all together correctly, intake and all that.

I dont know anything about that tank/sump, but that does sound like it is not setup correctly. I cant imagine they would design a system with that configuration. Can you get good pictures of your sump/setup?

How often does it run?
How long have you had it?

I have seen this in some of my skimmers but typically just when they were new. I also run my 24/7.

if you only run it sometimes it might be better if you try to run it 24/7. I would try that first.

I run my sump 24/7 as well, it obviously doesn’t run as well when the water level drops - but I top up every day (manually though)

So - there are a couple models of the redsea reefer 170. Do you know exactly which one you have - I have 2 redsea tanks - and never have this problem

Ignore how dirty it is at the moment haha.

BTW - no they should not be in the same compartment. There is a return pump compartment - and a skimmer compartment.

sorry, I’m not sure I bought it second hand. It’s black, came with sump and plumbing equipment. That’s all I know

I believe the 'top off chamber' is the return pump compartment
This is kind of what I was thinking as well..

Forgive me for sounding stupid. But if that’s the case, how does the water make it’s way to the return chamber since it’s seperate from the main chamber. Won’t the pump just quickly pump it all back into the tank, and then pump air? I don’t see a way for it to get back into there

OK - sorry for multiple posts - The return pump should definitely be in the area you call the 'top off chamber'

Here is the manual for that tank - you need to find the serial number - or look at the pictures to see how to set it up. Usually the compartment holding the return pump - the divider is somewhat lower.

And no, I’m not sure how to set it up. There is a ball valve, but I wasn’t given any equipment to make it work I don’t think
There is a compartment (a glass tank) - that has a piece that connects to the float valve thing which I do not see in your pictures - in any case - the return pump goes in that area

Your return pump needs to go in the what you have as the ato chamber. otherwise it looks good. Its not an ato storage chamber from what i can tell just the area they put the float valve.

Right - thats what I said:). He also found the ATO reservoir
