first ask yourself, are you going fish only, fish with corals? I always recommend for a new system. . . . Cheap-Easy-Friendly especially in the event there is loss, you haven't dropped your paycheck.
Great starters are Firefish goby, banghai cardinal, Pajama cardinal, coral beauty angel, 4 lined wrasse, percula clownfish and watchman goby
 
@DweeboDylan, you need a RO/DI unit, All the test kits: pH, calcium, magnesium, alkalinity, phosphate, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate...etc.
A bucket to mix saltwater with. A refractometer to test salinity, heater, powerheads, light....etc.

Awesome thanks! I have heard people say clownfish are also good starters. would you agree or do you recommend I stay away?
