I've had this growing and it comes back very quickly.

I agree with dino. I'm currently battling it myself in one of my tanks. I have tried everything that's suggested and it hasn't worked. Someone suggested using a uv sterilizer and I have one on its way. I will let you know how it works for me.

im battling them as well.

they will keep them in line but they wont kill them (uv)

Well I have tried everything else, so why not? From what I understand is that the uv doesn't eradicate it but keeps it from reproducing so that it can be removed manually.

yeah. from my observations uv destroys it at night when they are free swimming due to their circadium rythm.
i am attempting other methods atm and will report back successes or failures.
dinis truly are the devil

That's my plan..... do a lights out for 3 days while uv. I have tried everything recommended for it. Manual removal, kalk, hydrogen peroxide, lights out for a week, raising nitrates.... I even plugged in my skimmer for the first time in 8 months.

Dino forms long strings about a foot long that wave around in the current?
yup. when i went lights out/peroxide i had one over 18 inches long on my back wall. interestingly enough they didnt grow back when lights resumed. but they did return on my return nozzles and rockwork in the form of bubbles.
you should see those same strands on your sand if you dont clean it for a week at the end of your photoperiod, but in the morning they disappear. or show up much much less.

I'll try a water change then black out for a couple days see where that leaves me. What eats it?

predatory dinos. if you find some let me know.

i doubt lights out will solve it but others have had success doing it

I don't think that's Dinos. Looks like the beginning of hair alage to me. Dinos will dissipate when the lights go out. That is when they go into free swim mode. When the lights come back on they will form long snotty bubbly strings that will be everywhere. If this is only on the glass then I doubt very much its Dinos. Also if you really do suspect Dino's then the very last thing you will want to do is a water change. That will only fuel them.

When I had them really bad a couple of years ago It took a combo of 1 week lights out and daily peroxide dosing for a while. After that it was almost 6 months before i even attempted a small WC.

I did a nitrate test and it came back to 0ppm twice
dinos dont need nitrate. i have a nitrate deficit system (nitrate drops without water changes) and they still proliferate. generally under the most pristine systems.

I just want it gone I think it killed my diamond goby and my 6 line wrasse a couple weeks ago

I will eventually burn itself out but it is not like any algae. That is part of the reason you don't want to do a WC. That will pretty much give it everything it need to flourish.
My first ID for mine was cyano. So I decided to do WC after WC. And I watched it get worse and worse. Then I had the correct ID. Like I said for me it was lights out and peroxide dosing. Then months and months before the next WC. I also did not feed my tank for days on end. During my 1week lights out I fed only once and only made sure the fish only got a few pellets each.
