Went out into the garage this morning to get my dog's food and discovered my RODI unit running. Then remembered I had turned it on last night to fill up a 5 gallon bucket. Apparently my garage is on a slight slant because there was a stream of water flowing down to the garage doing. Can't wait to see that water bill.

Been there, done that. At least yours went outside. I've flooded my laundry room in two houses now.

EDIT: And the basement in my current house. I set a timer on my phone now so I remember to turn it off.

Setting a timer on my phone. Wow, so simple yet it never occurred to me. I will definitely be doing that from now on. So glad to know it's not just me.

Did that in my basement. Left it running overnight. Who knows how much water I wasted...Luckily its unfinished and the water just made its way to the floor drain in the furnace area so it wasn't a huge deal. I invested in a RODI float valve shutoff from BRS...no more problems!

If you go to your local hardware store they actually have timers that connect to your valves. If you know it takes X amount of time to fill out set the timer for that it automatically shuts off no more worrying cost about $10

I have done that before.. Lucky for me, the 20gal brute container is right by a drain in the basement. I think I wasted about 5 maybe 10 gal of water when the can overflowed.
I always set my timer on my phone, but that was the time I forgot to do so.

just feel lucky you didnt have enough water to leak from the third floor and leave puddles in the finished basement A BRS float check valve in the bucket and check valve on the RO/DI unit itself to shut the water off running to the RO/DI unit itself. Are well worth every penny of investing into because the piece of mind it gives you. Ill let mine run for hours to fill a 55g plastic drum and forget about it. If you want to spend some money and get high tech a float switch on a controller that closes 1-2 electric solenoid valves will work also.

I flooded the kitchen a couple times so finally installed a laundry sink. Now I stick the buckets in the sink so any overflow goes down the drain. I also have a digital kitchen timer that can clip on your belt like a pager so I don't lay it down somewhere and forget about it.

My ATO has a solenoid valve controlled by two float switches which is much better than a float valve although a little pricey.

They sell cheap water detectors that will go off like a fire alarm when they get wet. I also set IPHONE alarm, plus leave something like a loaf of bread on my pillow to remind me to shut the unit off before bed. (Sometime the kids grab the phone and turn alarms off when they are playing with it!)

Happen to me all the time. I am planning to install an auto shut off for the RO/DI system. All parts are bought..... a few months ago. ASO install? NO

Haha I like the bread on the pillow idea. It reminds you to turn the water off and then if you get hungry during the night you can have a snack.

I have forgotten to shut mine off a few times. If I did not have a float valve in my RO reservoir im sure the wife would have made me stop my hobby long ago.

I've done it in my appartment and in the kitchen of my house 3 times already! I even have an auto shut off valve thing, but haven't had the time to set it up in a brute can yet. ..... gee, I should really get on that huh?

My auto shut off didn't shut off recently, but now all my stuff is outside, so it doesn't mater in that way. I live in California though and I felt HORRIBLE about wasting the water.
