What should I add to the drain line into the sump for plumbing? Will this U curve be ok or should I cut it down to where it drains straight into sump?
 
Dr. F&S sells this cut to size kit, maybe an alternative for you?

You will get a little back pressure with the "u" in it that way, but shouldn't stop it from operating.
 
I would cut it down and move the sump directly under the overflow to eliminate as much flex hose as possible to reduce headloss or back pressure which slows the overflow rate.
 
I will cut it down so it will fall right straight into my sump. Will I need a barb fitting or can I just Clampett to the pvc coming out of the bulkhead?
 
Looks like it is a pretty good fit over the PVC coupling so I would hose clamp it
 
I think it will work out a lot better for you if you put 1 45 degree fitting next to your sump and one next to your bulkhead

I had a setup close to that before an I got a lot of surges, which caused problema
