Plumbing

Tape is a great idea for a clean look thank you! I'll probably spray paint mine since I have like 12 different krylon fusion colors.. I do spray paint galaxies I might just go ahead and paint a large paper and tape it to the back. It might look super sweet or not IdK ill give it a shot and post pics in my build thread.

I'm in an apartment right now so I'll be moving in a year and a half or 2 idk. Maybe hose plumbing is the best for me.

Painting your own background sounds interesting! Can you post a link to your build thread? Also where do you suggest buying krylon fusion paints?

Pick clear primer not the purple one so it will look clean

You can visit my build by going here.. https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/showthread.php?t=197012 .... no idea if that worked I guess we shall find out. But where to buy krylon.. local art stores usually have it but its fairly expensive through them Walmart HD Lowes ace hardware. Pretty much any diy store.. hobby lobby.. ?Joannes? Ac Moore I think sells it.. wherever its cheapest for you. Walmart is usually 5-7 bucks not too bad..

Is primer necessary or... can u like rough it with sandpaper then cement it? If its necessary then where's the clear stuff HD or Lowes or sth? Why do they sell purple crap if there is clear crap..

primer is not "necessary" on brand new pipe assembled in a clean area. Irrigation wise it make a huge difference with pipe that has been laying in dirt or stored outside. any ace hardware will most likely have the clear primer... purple is easier to find as it is usually required by code to prove you have used it. As a side note, unless you intend on having some seriously high pressure you shouldn't worry too much

Primer should be used regardless if the pipe is new or old. Thats the only way its garaunteed not to leak. Only my oppinion

I would always use primer, leaking pipes suck. Even if it only helps 1% that would be enough for me!

I really like flex PCV now. I did a hard PVC setup with black pipe and fittings for looks and fusion painted the gate value and couplings, but I found out that hard PVC won't allow you to change the couplings, you need a little bit of give in some spots! So now I put flex PVC around there so I can bend the pipe and get the couplings out easier.

I sketch it out usually. Then make or try to make one stop at Lowes/Home Depot for regular plumbing parts. SCH40 parts are more then enough and get my gate valves at Ace Hardware. Buy more, MORE of everything you will need. Return the rest later or save them for spares.

Dry fit and push the pipes in snug. I don't use any primer, just add the cement on and rotate it while pushing in. This creates an even bead of cement on the two pieces. Haven't had a since leak since using this method. It seals it not only on the outside but the inside as well. Unions are a big deal for me, maybe more then I need but a safe bet when any servicing is needed.

Online orders... your own your own. Shipping is a pain
Reefer eric don't use no gosh dang primer.

Here's a question for ya. Do you put the cement on the smaller PVC part (like 1 inch pipe) or the larger PVC part (like the coupling)

I put both primer and cement on each of the pieces that are being joined. Push the pieces together, make a quarter turn, hold for a few seconds so the pipe will set and not back out of the fitting. Then take a paper towel and wipe off any excess around the joint.

No glue on threaded fittings. Tape only - and not that much.

Also, don't screw the threaded fittings in too far. You can crack the fittings - and maybe not right away. I learned that the hard way.
