I don't disagree at all. As for the benthic or anaerobic processing (same with a DSB) and I am not sure that "flow" in terms of water flow is what would be the driver. I think osmotic flow, as well as bacterial boundaries and migration would come into play (thus why those zone exist in the first place).

How important? I can't answer that.
That gets into fluid dynamics and pressures which our scientific community would love. I would love talking about Pascal's law as well. I wonder if varying degrees of tank circulation would impart some also varying degree of localized pressure change on the substrate (being it's a point of restriction) and as a result, maybe a change in osmotic flow (capillary action?).

what!? there is no controversy here on R2R. we all are level headed compassionate people with great leasing and conversation skills...

Ok joking aside. but i do feel we are better at having a convo than the FW peeps. I was thinking about a planted FW tank. ( still am) and wow what a difference.

anyway for me personally its the QT vs non QT I see both sides of the topic and I keep going back in forth.
also see the threads get heating pretty quick with lots of emotion.

Many of the non QT folks use flawed (extremely flawed) logic to explain why they don't QT... they then rabidly defend their opinion even if it defies, fact, logic, science or reality. Those post types overshadow the very reasonable and logical reasons that some people provide for not using QT. Same holds true for some of the rabidly pro QT people.

Ohh wait - that is almost everything in this hobby.

Should cipro be used in reefing, and are those doing so without regard to anything_just because they can_ harming things outside the hobby through a myopic spoiled-rotten-don't have-to-work at it mode of reefing?

I think adding live vs dry rock would have been a popular choice.

I am by far not an anti QT person but i know of a ton of people that do not QT and have successful tanks. They are also not on here either and know what the LFS tells them. I only buy pre-qt'ed fish for me for now on. Worth me not having to hassle with it.

Look at fish shops. They sell fish like crazy. These people are not QTing.

You missed my point. There are valid arguments on both sides. There are also plenty of poorly supported or illogical arguments.

Your point above: “I am not anti seatbelt. I know a ton of people that don’t wear them and are still alive“ is not proof that seatbelts are bad or good….

I simply said that people argue using poor evidence and logic, many of them rabidly and those people drown out the reasonable points in many of these debates.

This reminds me of the “Tang Police”. I think that topic brought out the rage in some like I have never seen. I remember back when I was new to the hobby I got chewed out for wanting to put more than one tang in a 125 gallon tank.

This is so interesting, QT most votes and least comments...
maybe no one wants to start a fight today
From my reading here on r2r, lighting has always lead to the longest threads... but me not read much

I read a lot of differing opinions on here. I think its probably a good thing. Curious which one you think is the most controversial? Thought this would be fun.
People always argue with me when I say I cycle my tanks with a pair of clownfish, I’ve done almost a dozen cycles now and I’ve never seen any issues with the clowns from doing so. People call it inhumane I say listen to the animals (look at the fish) and it’ll tell you if it’s stressed or being harmed

The hottest I've seen this forum get in a long time is when that Tropic-Marin stuff was going down, and whenever BRS acquires something there's always some feces being flung in those threads too.

Ideal phosphate/nitrate levels imo. There is still a lot of controversy on if these are direct or secondary parameters and honestly i dont think anyone really knows. Many of the other items are just a matter of opinion or preference but for Nitrate and Phosphate we really dont know for sure.

After that its probably ideal light spectrum, there is always more to omptimize and its still not a fixed parameter that everyone shoots for.
