6-8 weeks????
DO YOU HAVE LIGHTS ?? ( Joking but that's a LONG Time - wow)
It really is weird. When I had my 125 set up I had to clean it weekly. But since I downsized to a 29 gallon it just quit. I'm running an AI Prime HD. It's been about 5 weeks since I cleaned the glass and you really can't see any film looking straight at the tank. But it you get off to the side you can see a tiny bit. I'll probably give the glass a good cleaning this coming weekend though. But then again nothing about this nano should "technically" work. From using a HOB, no skimmer, topping off with my well water (I do use RO for water changes)...nothing. But if it's not broke why fix it? Lol. I may have to upgrade if I ever get brave enough to try sps though.

You can see it a bit from this angle

i can't remember the last time i scraped down my tank tbh. truthfully, i think it's because i'm leery of scratching it (180G acrylic tank). i have a soft sponge specifically for acrylic tanks, but i keep visualizing micro-scratches with each swipe of the sponge lol. ;Nailbiting

there's coralline algae here and there, but i guess i have the coralline-eating asterina stars cuz i notice bare outlines of coralline "splotches." very little film too (I have a lawnmower blenny & trochus snails) . i tend to run mostly just my blues for most of the photo-period.

About every 2-3 days, I like it to be very clean

I just love the clean tank appeal

We use a flipper with acrylic blades on our 180 acrylic also use magic erasers and no scratches yet

Not sure on the time frame probably about once every week or two but I let it build up pretty good. When I scrape it it comes off in flakes that my fish love. They chase my flipper around gobbling up all the algea lol.

Roughly once a week but it can vary somewhat depending on how busy I get and whether I'm having any guests.

The glass scraper attachment for the magnet algae cleaner is one of the better inventions in the past decade or so. I can take care of 95%+ of the algae that way. With an island tank I have to clean all four sides of the tank. Takes 10-15 mins. I don't leave it in the tank when I'm not scraping.

I scrap my glass every 3-4 days, Front and sides, got the back of the tank blacked out and maybe hit it one a month, for the most part leave the back glass for my snails.

Usually every other day or so for me. Longest I've let it go is prob 5 days. I like to see what in my tanks. Never scrape the back glass tho. Leave it for the snails, just incase.

id be interested to know if its because your tank is wide enough to be out of the light or if its a nutrient thing.. or maybe if you're just accepting a little growth for a while? lol

ive considered a 2' wide tank to try to eliminate the light hitting in hopes of not cleaning the glass...as often..

The tank is a standard 29 gallon. The light definitely hits the front glass. I believe it's nutrient related (only 3 fish and I hand feed so very little wasted) as well as a good CUC. My tank also has a healthy population of colonista snails which helps.

Acrylic tank; mostly every other weekend, sometimes I push it to three weeks. Blanking panels on the tank limit the light that falls on the front.

I have to clean the glass evry couple of days or so. I went to see a big tank and over a coffee we were talking about lighting and brightness. I have a 4' chinese box LED ( its a great light ) that has 3 channels ( white/red/green and day blue and night blue ) and I have the whites on during the day from 10am to 5.30pm at 70% of the power available. I was told that 70% is high and that (a) it doesn't need to be that high and (b) that was why I was getting a lot of algae on the glass ?? So my question is ( and this guy has been reefing for a long long time ) is he right about 70% being too high and the cause of the algae.
