Pop Eye?

I came home from work for lunch to take my puppy to the bathroom, and I noticed my Tang has what appears to be pop eye? Just want to get your opinions. Maybe he ran in to something? I haven't noticed any fish being aggressive to him.

Water changes will help. Generally when this has happen to one of my fish I start doing like10-20 % water changes maybe 2-3 days in row and step up my skimming more aggressively. I th ink cleaner water will help it heal

Is pop eye what it in fact looks like? I've never had a fish have it before. Just want to make sure that is in fact what it is.

Hard for me to tell. Eye does look cloudy and little popped out. My suggestions are based on my experience. I have found that when I let my tank go this happens to my fish. In past when I have turned off my skimmer for few days my tang gets pop eye. After turning skimmer on and few water changes it always gets better

How is your tank husbandry? How often do you clean it or do water changes? Is your skimmer functioning properly ?

This is a newly set up tank (moved from a reefer 250 to 525xl two weeks ago. Got the tang last Friday.

Hmm. He doesnt seem stressed. Hes been eating and very active.

Also just tested my water the other day and its spot on.

Lost my Polleni Grouper to pop eye couple years back, was so devastated.

What are my best options? Seems like most people say if its just one eye, leave it be and it will generally heal on its own? Some say to dose Epsom salt?

I read recently that one side what most likely trauma, both sides, bacterial infection. One my anthias had that, I used kanaplex with focus in the display with good success. Almost gone after a few weeks. please double check what med is safe for your tank

Epsom salt helps with the swelling. Gives the fish a better chance than just leaving it. I used epsom salt once for this. The fish was better in about a weeks time. The Epsom salt needs to not have any additives. Maybe someone else will chime in on the correct type. Or I can check when I get home. Good luck.

Yeah, from the bit I found online, it said as long as there are no additives, it can reduce swelling a lot in a few days time.

Agree with both Epsom salt bath and good water quality. Also if you have microbubbles in tank, it can contribute to popeye as it reaches the weakest part of the body- Eye sockets

Interesting. There are no bubbles in the tank. I will pick up some Epsom salt on the way home. Sounds like a tablespoon per 5 gallons?

Everyone was spot on with epsom salt. One other thing to watch out for may be flukes. A fresh water dip in a dark bucket if he does not get better may be needed.

How long do you dip him in the fresh water? Also, how would I know if its not getting better? Super cloudy swollen eye for how long? Sounds like recovery time is very broad for pop eye?
