yeah this is not cool on my head.. now i got people telling me about the radiation reaching here today.. potassium iodide is bidding up to $5000 on ebay cause everyone want it and need it to protect themselves... Every single drug store sold out :sad::sad::sad::sad: man i hope this is all just a scare

I heard that the potassium iodide doesn't work. You have to take it immediately after radiation exposure and it is only for the radiation on a specific type of cancer patients going through chemo.

I also heard that you have to take the iodine almost immediatly after you are exposed(aprox. 30minutes after).

Im keeping you west coast guys in my thoughts.

Potassium iodide only helps prevent radiation damage to the thryoid gland. No other organs are protected. Waste of money for most people imo.

That is exactly the reason they are buying it up though. When the Chernobyl incident happened, many cases of thyroid cancer were reported in children and the health experts say that many of the cases could have been avoid if they would have taken potassium iodide before being exposed.
