Need a little input... Got up this morning, fed the tank before lights on, then went back to check and when they came up, I noticed my Potter's breathing rapidly. He's still swimming around just fine, eating, the whole deal, but is slightly more reclusive and like I said, the rapid respiration. Anyone got any suggestions or thoughts? Tested everything, tank is in order and he is the only fish acting thus way. No new fish additions. I did add 3 corals, but otherwise nothing has changed.

How long has the fish been in the tank for? When you say he is acting reclusive, is he staying out of the light? Any other odd behavior?

In the tank 3 months at least. Not really staying out of the light. Just skiddish is maybe a better word. Like when I approach the tank it hides. It didn't do that yesterday. Or even when I fed before lights on.

Angels are skiddish even after acclimation. Mine hides when I approach, the fish has been in the tank over a year.

The increased respiratory rate is a concern, usual suspects are marine ich, and velvet.

It would behoove you to consider setting up a QT asap.

Potter Angels are one of my very favorite fish. What are you feeding? What other fish types are present?

My favorite too. It's fed SFB Angel & Butterfly mixed with LRS Reef Frenzy and occasional Ocean nutrition reef 2 flake and seaweed salad on a veggie clip to minimize nipping. Also in the tank: Flasher Fairy Wrasse, Golden assessor, 6 green chromis and a ORA green filefish for majano cleanup. None of the fish are over 2.5" long. I noticed the file is also slightly labored. I recently started running MH over my tank replacing led which has increased water temps. It's open top tank, but I'm wondering if my dissolved O2 levels are low...?

Hmmm, can you increase surface agitation? Is the temp over 82F?

Excellent job on providing a mixed diet, makes a big difference when keeping Dwarf Angels.

Fish can appear startled when the lights come on, they can dart around and display heavier breathing patterns.

I would though start thinking about a QT.

It's possible but fairly unlikely if you are running a skimmer and don't have an bacteria bloom.

How long ago did you add the coral? Both velvet and marine ich can be introduced into an aquarium via hard surfaces like coral plugs if they came from an infected system. Symptoms seem to start showing 3 to 5 weeks after the addition.

Yes, I can adjust a koralia or two and get some more movement. The temp stays right about 81.7. My chiller is down so I have all the cabinet doors open and a fan running to dissipate the heat from the MH. I did adjust the light timing. I had my T5 come in then the mh later...

Added the coral 2 days ago. They came out of fishless drag tanks but I don't know what the had their frag tanks tied to. Bacterial blooms are pretty obvious from what I recall yes?

Unless the coral came in very heavily infested it is unlikely to be the cause if this is ich or velvet.

Rapid breathing can indicate a disease present in the gills (ich, velvet, flukes) or possibly an environmental factor/low oxygen.

Are any of your other fish breathing heavy or acting funny?

The only one I really noticed breathing slightly heavy is the filefish. But nothing like the potters.

No new fish additions for almost a month.
I missed this earlier.... I think it is very possible that this is the source of either Ich or Velvet. If these fish were added without using QT it is possible that they were ich/velvet tolerant but introduced it into your system. Even a slight stressor like running higher water temps than normal could have caused the fish to lose their tolerance to the parasite.

Actually, if velvet tomonts were encysted to the coral introduced 2 days ago ... dinospores (free swimmers) could already be in the water looking for fish to infect.

It typically takes 48 - 96 hours for 200 dinospores to form inside each tomont and then rupture.

What kind of coral was it? Does it have a hard or stony base? Did you rinse or dip the coral before adding it?

Also, did you accidentally dump any of the bag water into the tank?

True. I was looking at it from the perspective that it would be the 2nd generation which would have very high numbers and start causing noticeable symptoms.

I think the timeline of fish being added a month ago without QT is a very likely source of any number of parasites. Be it flukes, velvet, or ich.

Your fish's skin seems to look ok in your vid. does any of your fish rub on rocks or glass a lot or is there skin cover in a salty appearance
