Powderblue died i think im done with fish

Well my powder blue like any other had ich as soon as it got to my tank and it manage to battle it and got clear an beauty full and every now and then it would get a few spots but then it would be gone. The weird thing is that out of no where my atlantic tang got stress i dont know how and develope a mad case of ich and died and after that my powder blue broked up again with ich and died but the weird thing is both fish got cover with ich one day and swimming strong the night before they died an then in the mourning they were both doing the laying side ways hiding thing they do before they died and by the en of the day they were dead. The atlantic died a day before the powder blue. The one thing i dont understand is that they were healthy fat fish. And had all their color. Normally fish that get ich they will get ich all over and start to loose their color. I think im all done with fish im just gonna keep the fish i got in the tank and that it. It weird when is easier to keep sps corals than fish.

That sucks luis.... Powder blue's are notorious for getting ick and are not easy to keep. QT is the only way to get fish healthy then put them in the display tank. Ick whiped out most of my fish a couple years ago and I never restocked.

Yea i guess im going trough an ich out break the sad part is i wount be able to catch any of them due to my rock work is not movable. Also my sailfin is getting spots. An other problem im running due to the tank being so high 31 inches and my rock work being epoxied together is that i can get my dead powder blue tang out.

When you suddenly saw all the spots on your fish is when the parasite awoke from it's dormant stage when the fish got stressed and left the fish and left all the spots on them. They are currently in your sand bed going thru another life cycle. Isnt that a lovely thought?

I hate ich with a passion! I lost 80% of my fish not too long ago. I went out and got a 55 gallon QT, pulled my reef apart, got the fish out and ran the tank fishless for over 9 weeks. Then the 3 fish that survived stayed in the QT for 4 weeks more after that when I bought more fish to QT. Finally after all that I put the fish in the tank. I QT'd the additional fish as well for 4 weeks. After getting my list complete again....guess what?...I got ich again on my powder brown and purple tang.

There are strains of ich that can go dormant in a resistant fish for up to 36 weeks!!! So I understand your frustration....trust me.

But I still have my purple and powder brown, and the PBT still gets spots here and there, but as long as the stress level stays down and they get a good varied diet, they can fend it off. But I honestly think it's a waste of time to think your DT will ever be ich free. Every piece of coral would have to be QT'd too.

Dont let it get to you too bad man. Next time you see a nice tang, buy it, and leave it at the LFS for 2 weeks, then bring it home and see how it does.

I have about 10 nasarius snails and a couple of other types of algae eating snails. And few scarlet hermet.

Ich free is possible. But not easy

If you QT without meds then it's 8 week minimum for QT and observe for signs. Also no guarantee.

If you QT with copper like Cupramine, then 3 weeks in Cupramine (at correct level!) and good to go.

I've had my share of Ich and Velvet and learned the hard way. All my fish go thru a Cupramine Qt reguardless of where they come from.

Did you change anything recently with your hardware, or add a new fish. Can you think of what caused the stress.

You would have to get all fish out and let the display tank go fish free for 8-10 weeks. Then qt everything that goes in.

Here is what i added. A week ago i added live rock to my sump from my frag tank that i took apart the live rock when from the frag tank to my sump the frag tank only had a springer damsel. Then mid week i added a mariculture chalice and a few high end chalices. On thursday i added a blue linkia starfish on saturday i added an other high end chalice and a rasta zoa frag. I also did a 25 gallon water change on thursday with the same salinity and temperature as the display and i had the water circulating with the heater and power head for 24hrs

One more fish dying. I was looking at my tank before the light went off and my i notice my midas blenny started swimming into rocks and out of no where it drop to the sand and didnt want to move so i went to get him out and it did the same bang against rocks so i finally got him out and put him on an small tank i have. Note this fish was also swimming strong and eating today. Im on my way to wallmart to see if they sell copper treatment. This crap sucks all this fish are starting to drop dead. I think my tank is suffering from marine velvet i just watch mr salt water tank video on his tank and it happen to him too.
