Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

So, yesterday I got my 120g up and running! but I'm not happy with my power heads. A they are to powerful I got the Q-9 by Coral Box. B. They make a loud high pitch noise. Mine just might be defective but I'm going to return them anyways. I also got a Jacob DCS-9000 for my return pump. Way to powerful... Im only using 10% power anything really more makes a lot of noise and flow. My 120g Mainland tank is rated for 700-800 gph that return pump is just to much....

So, I need some advice.

I was thinking of this:
QTY 1- Current USA eFlux Accessory Wave Pump - 1050GPH
QTY 1-Current USA eFlux Accessory Wave Pump - 2100GPH

I will put the 1050 next to my overflow box, where my return heads are. I think that would be a good balance?

Return Pump:

Current USA eFlux DC Flow Pump 1050 gph.
As that seems to be around what the tank calls for.. Its about 80$ more then the Jecod.... Maybe better quality?

What are your thoughts?

Anyone got any advice on this one ;)

Soft and ones like bubble/hammer heads, frog spawns. Not really hard stony ones.

I don't have any experience with those particular pumps, so can't comment on the pumps themselves but they look like they would be enough flow for a softie/lps tank.

Probably yes on the quality, but none of these have been around long enough to know if they are reliable or not... ask folks in 5-8 years. If you want pure quality, get a Laguna or Fluval or the appropriate size.

My favorite budget flow pump is EcoMedic Ecodrift. They are not as cheap as the Chinese stuff and are not as expensive as the German and USA stuff. They are made in Poland and have a US Office in Colorado, so the warranty is actually good and you can get support. Although I don't like them as much as my Tunze pumps, they also were not near the price. They have been fine for 3+ years.

Ok, so my current marine eflux wave power head is also loud. I just got the return pump by them and it was louder the my Jecob. So I don’t like them.... I need a pump that’s a good price& QUITE . What are my options? My Q-9 pump has a high pitch and the current makes a loud hummmm. Any advice would be great

If you want silent you are going to have to spend more. Look at tunze, sicce, ecotech, and reef octopus has dc return pumps.
I’m thinking about the reef octopus 4 that’s 1050. You think that would be a better choice then the Jeaob?

I have the dct 6000 for a return pump, I've never run it over 60% and I honestly can't say I can hear it over anything else. I have PP8 wavemakers and I have to say, they could be quieter. If you want silent circulation pumps you're going to spend $$$ for them.

Thanks, I’m thinking of pulling out the credit card and getting the reef octopus 4 . You think that will be quieter then the dct 6000

Much better choice. I have a Waveline DC-6000 that is rated about 1500. On my 120g I run it at 65% to keep it quiet and provide good flow. I wonder if the smaller size RO4 might have to work too hard - and too loud - to get the flow you want.

I have a pump that pushes 1050 gph I have that at 50% so the RO4 should be great :)

I think the trick with these DC pumps is to not push them too hard. My issue with the reef octopus is the cost. If someone told me I had to choose between going over budget on return pumps or circulation I would go over budget on circulation. LOTS of people run Jebao returns and don't have any trouble. If I were in your shoes I would buy a less expensive return and spend the money on high end circulation.

Thanks- What does high end circulation look like? I have tried the Q-9 Coral Box, that had a very high pitch noise but no humming. I tried the current wave pump and that had a very loud humming noise. What others should I look into?

Ecotech. Maxspect Gyre. Tunze.

Ecotech. Maxspect Gyre. Tunze.

Good call- The Ecotechs I don't like. You cant move them up or down and my buddies would fall off when the power went out. "Who Knows" lol and $
The Maxspect Gyre looks LARGE and silly- Whats up with that?
The Tunze seems reasonable in price and they look small but are they quite?

Thanks for the info!

So the Turbelle does not have a waive option?
