Be glad you don't have Metal Halide lighting ! Now that would consume some power, at least 300 watts !

Agreed. Fairfield county is stupid expensive, at one point it was the most expensive county in the USA. 1400sqft house on the lake Just listed at 1.2mil and it looks like it needs to be a complete teardown and rebuild.Tear downs trade over a million so not as cheap is you might think. This is NYC commuter territory so it gets a bit stupid. Not that anyone commutes anymore. Everybody “works from home” now. The schools are awesome though.

yes it is, here in NJ they charge you "delivery fee" which fluctuates depending on time of day, i.e. peak vs quiet. Which sometimes is more expensive than electricity itself...
If you have a huge solar system and are about to drop 30K on a generator and house switch AND you need a whole day of backup power or more, then maybe consider a few powerwalls instead.
$30K on a generator?!?!?!?!
Is everything in CA that much more expensive?
I priced one of these at around 20k ouchhhhhooof I added a zero on there lol
I am talking "whole house generator":

About 3K. So yeah, waaay less than a powerwall. Most can hook up to your natural gas line too...

Cost on a Generac Guardian series generator with ATS is anywhere between $4k (16kw) and $6k (24kw).
You're probably looking at another $4k-$6k to install depending on the jobsite specifics, permit fees, etc. I don't work for Norwall just sharing a site with pricing. Generac pricing is MAP so it should be the same everywhere.Norwall PowerSystems

I have the same issue in Ca.currently i pay .41 per kwh. the issue is california, not the USA
we have something called tiered pricing. my wife and i have 4 kids, so were always in tier 3![]()
It is pretty crazy, but the cost isn't in the price of generation. Electricity can be generated for between $.03 and $.04 per kwh for the most part. The real costs are in installing and maintaining the infrastructure for distribution.Crazy how expensive electricity is!
Who cares? Put the pedal to the metal & leave a big a** carbon footprint!
Yeah but you need to take into account that low voltage DC watts is not the same as your AC wattage that you pay for. 100 watts DC is not 100 watts AC. A lot of aquarium equipment like lighting and pumps only tell you the DC wattage.
In the UK I run 3 tanks, 1 reef, 1 planted freshwater and one nano reef. All have heaters, lights, pumps, skimmers and all the other extras and my total cost is around £20 per month or around $28.
my 3000 watt hot tube only costs £50 per month to run 24/7
Man I was ticked over my jump from .09 to .13currently i pay .41 per kwh. the issue is california, not the USA
