I am looking to start running my fish through the rounds of deworming and defluking. It is my first time attempting this, and would love it if I could get some R2R help! Again, I live in Australia so the available meds are either sibstituted or non existant the majority of the time.
I have Blue Planet Fluke and Tapeworm tablets which are 100mg tablets of Praziquantel.

Fish in my QT:
1x Valenciennea helsdingenii
1x Tomini Tang
1x Harlequin Tusk
1x Echidna xanthospilos
1x Paracentropogon longispinis
2x Amphiprion chrysopterus

My other med option is: Waterlife Sterazin which quotes "aids in control of internal parasites".

TIA -Rory

The Praziquantel should work just fine. Did you have any specific questions you were looking for help with?

I would suggest the Waterlife Octozin for internal parasite treatment. It's main ingredient is Metronidazole which is what we use here to treat intestinal worms.

I haven't much idea on appropriate ways to feed it to them as some fish have small mouths. Bind with garlic sup/bioo-viv and food, let sit a while, then attempt to feed?

I heard it is illegal to sell Metronidazole here, and you need to know a vet personally to have a chance to get it. I didn't even know Octozin existed, but I'll see if I can source it online. That and API general cure [emoji14]

I found somewhere I can get it online, and it says the active ingredient is Dimetridazole? The same as Metronidazole? And "Reef Friendly" + "O Conditioner may also be used to treat Whitespot in seawater aquaria where CUPRAZIN cannot be used" and they refer to it as "O Conditioner Octozin" :S

I know Dimetridazole has been used to clear stringy white feces in FW fish; particularly Hexamita in Discus, Angels and other cichlids. It is also a common livestock feed additive for prophylactically treating intestinal worms, but more countries (like Canada) are banning it due to suspicions of it being carcinogenic.

The 100mg prazi tablets will work fine to make a stock solution for treating external worms like Monogeneans (aka flukes). Dosage is 2.0 - 2.5 mg/L (the latter is Prazipro's dosage), and you will need to use a small amount of ethyl alcohol or even common vodka to dissolve the tablet.

Having done my maths correctly, 65L needs 162.5mg for prazipro dosage or 130mg. Shall I just be doing rpughly 1.5 tablets?

The package also says 1 tablet per 20L.
This is for FW. Which do I do?

The SW dosage for praziquantel is 2.0 - 2.5 mg/L. The former is the concentration recommended in the literature, while the latter is the "stronger" Prazipro dosage. I've successfully tested the 2.0 mg/L dosage on fish with confirmed flukes 8 times, but I cannot say that lower dosage will be effective on all Monogeneans. So, probably best to stick with the higher 2.5 mg/L concentration.

Thanks!

I dizzolved the tabs until they were powder basically and added them to the tank. My most concerning fish is my female Paracentropogon longispinis as I know she had some flukes when I got it and it isn't a strong feeder.
She wouldn't eat before I added the solution to the water, but I think she was mid shed at that point.
Either way she started swimming around alot after I added it to the water. Is this normal?

Flukes tend to spasm when exposed to Prazi. That could be irritating the fish causing it to swim around more.

Thanks, that's the only thing I could think of, great to get reassurance [emoji106] do I need to do WC in a couple of days too?

Yup, it would be a good idea.
