Prettiest ATO Resevoir Ever

Since the conversation about the Syphon stop was going on here.

Basically a thin 16mm j-pipe with a pump at the bottom rising up, hooking in a 25mm elbow at the highest point.
The air gap between the pipes allows air to be sucked in.

A simple t-piece would also work just fine. I wanted to have a non permanent connection.

I use the Tunze Kalk dispenser to add kalkwasser to my sump via the ATO. What I like about this solution is the kalk sits in my sump and the water is then forced through from the Tunze ATO avoiding having to keep it in the main container. It has a one way flow valve so no siphon and the ATO line never gets clogged with calcium deposits. Perfect solution.

I do believe you've just made my wife *extremely* happy! Replacing the ATO reservoir with something that actually looks *good* is freaking *brilliant*! Thanks for sharing!

Great idea. Too bad the HomeGoods site sucks. They don't post any actual useful information on it. Just a bunch of " Customer Finds" and worthless Pinterest links....

Just wondering if you have ever tested the TDS After sitting a few days ?

Such a great solution to those of us who are spatially challenged in the stand and in many cases this less expensive than the acrylic ATO reservoirs mass produced.

Not as beautiful as yours but it works

If your tank doesn’t have a lid I am sure it is going to get stuff in it that way more than the opening on the vase .
You know the ocean is open to everything in the air!

As is the top of the tank
Lol.. sometimes, I feel reefers are too hysterical about water. I find it unnecessary. I used to freak out of dog hair in the sump. After I did a big water change after I saw an ant drowned after a backyard ant treatment, I felt it was too much. my freaking out in fact warned me that it was becoming a source of stress. Well I don’t need that so I let it go unless I see actual distress on corals.

I once had a float switch fixed in the ATO tank with a cloths peg.
The iron from the metal spring supported a wide variety of biological activity in the freshwater tank. Sterile conditions are not a bad idea IMO. I also used a algae scrubber from the main tank to stir the salt in.
Lots of bacteria blooms (in my freshwater setup).

Once I stopped cross contaminating the ATO tank and took the clothes peg out, that stopped right away.
Once in a while I rinse with hot water to reset biology.
