i think the point is, you don't call it a GARF unless you know it came from their strain.

otherwise, what is the point in giving a name to a particular lineage of coral?

the tricolor i gave rev come off of a random wild tricolor acro colony that came into the LFS several years ago. you can give whatever name to it one pleases, but to call it a "GARF bonsai", is misleading b/c most people will think it came from the GARF lineage (when it didn't).

a more appropriate general name would be "tricolor acro", "valida", or "bonsai".......or even "R2R bonsai".

but personally i think "the surfn bonsai" sounds better....lol

I do buy named corals, i got a bunch of tyree stuff from smcooler and im very happy with it. But when i see something really nice it doesnt matter to me if it has a name or not i like nice stuff. but you are right about calling something a garf if you dont know, IMO a lot of people do this just for similar corals and it is misleading. even if a wild colony comes in and looks just like a named coral ive found that a lot of wild colonies change once you get them in a tank for a while.

here is a good example of an awesome tricolor that IMO is much better than the GARF bonsai. but it was specifically traded to me as NOT the GARF bonsai.

My buddy got a piece of that actual garf bonsai and the ones ive seen on this post looks like th bicolor ...these are ****** pics and idk if anyone is still on this post lol but this is what I got from him its a deep purple with bright green tips and it grows out with a huge base before it grows up .....but lmk what yall think
