Hey everyone, I know I'll get a ripping from the VorTech lovers,
but come on, VorTech's new MP60w QuietDrive Propeller Pump,

for $675 bucks !

You kidding me ???

I hope they have a lot,...better quality than the MP series, and last 10 (+) years !

I would like someone who has this model to tell us how they like it.

We can buy two, Maxspect Gyre's for the price of one VorTech.

Figured they would come down In price , You can buy a lot of Jebao wave makers at that price

I'd keep my prices high to if I had a product that sales like hotcakes and doesn't show any signs of slowing. They have apparently fixed my biggest gripe about their product. The noise. While the Gyre is cool, and I've seen several in person, I wouldn't buy one at this point due to the fact that they don't talk to each other. To me, they weren't ready for prime time. Look at the reviews on BRS. Many people agree. I still think a closed loop is the best if done right.

Like I told my wife, we could buy like 12 Jeabo's for that price.

If their quality was a lot higher I might try one, but everyone I hear from that have the MP's, their always having problems
and, their noisy. So why do people keep buying them ??? :squigglemouth:

I think most ppl who complain about these usually don't have them set up right. I've had mine for a few years now with no problems. And in all honesty when the vortech is at 100% it really isn't much louder than the jaebo I have as a mixing pump is at 100%

Owners seem to have a mixed bag, either they love or hate them. I really like most of their products,
like my 150 skimmer, just love it.

I just don't see $675 for one pump !
I can see maybe,......$300, if it lasted 5 years.

Do any of you plan on buying one for that price ?

I agree that they rushed them to the market, but who doesen't.
It does not even have a night time eye or programed into the controller.

I'll wait several months before buying one, as they also have some issues to work out.
I wish the VorTech wasn't so,........expensive. I feel like their catering to the rich, and not us
low to middle income reefers !

I would need two of these new pumps for my tank, but I will not pay $1,350 for two wave making pumps !

What do you set up ?

Making sure the pin is properly set and the wetside is properly aligned with the dry side, you'd be amazed by the amount of ppl who fail to do this right. Even though they say they have

I want them to be able to plug into a controller with 0-10v or PMW. Be able to talk to each other either wireless or with a cable. Also if you could get them with the cable in a left or right side configuration would be cool to. That way the wire would shoot out the side and go straight off the back of the tank. What would also be cool, but probably expensive to implement, would be if the props were on a servo motor so that you could change the flow direction from parallel to the water surface to maybe a 45 degree into the tank. Either have it do that once and hour for a few minutes or continuously oscillating. Just to get a little variety in flow.

I love my VorTechs I just wish they would increase the strength of the magnet to hold secure on 3/4" glass.

You wouldn't say that if you had ever gotten your pinky finger caught between two wet sides. OMG it hurt really bad. lol

Maybe I missed it but what size/dimensions tank you putting this on? from the comment above sounds you may be better suited for two MP40's.

125g.

But, the purpose of my thread is asking why, VorTech's price is so high.
As far as I see it, NO,....powerhead is worth $675 bucks.

Mp40s qd are almost 200 cheaper than the originals when they released, and it's all about features and prestige(reef Crest, detritus stir, nutrient export modes.. Stuff you can do manually with a turkey baster or small power head [emoji14]) .. You can have just as nice of system with hydor pumps. I have two of the new 40s. Nice. Improvement on sound they are def nice to. Not hear as much lol and peak strength is a bit stronger.. I also like the black control module vs. The white.. But that has nothing to do with the pump lol other than that.. Not really any different and no problems thus far. They are guaranteed so if a bug arises my vendor will replace them for me. I also have a second display of same size that runs a polario 15ml and two 1050.koralias... They both have excellent flow and corals are just as happy in this as the mp40 display
