Not sure about Japanese but I know for a fact that Chinese lamps are hazardous. A tenant once tried chinese lamps for some sconces when halogen was being phased out…..they kept having issues with the lamps literally exploding.Allow me to recommend Japan
That sounds like its your county or city or your contractor is fleecing you. I can say in my part of CA they can install fixtures with regular sockets all they want. Numerous houses in my neighborhood burned down in 2020 and I know for a fact many of them have regular fixatures you can put any bulb in as long as they are marked JA-8 2016. There are even Edison bulbs that meet Title 24 requirements. Recessed is a different story.
Except it's not the store that does the warranty, you have send to whoever on the box plus postage, etc... unless it's the stores brand. Cfl bulbs are worse yet in failures. I've had incandescent bulbs Outlast LEDs and CFLs and LEDs are known to be harmful to your eyes
They still make and sell t12. T12 have been around half a century. I do agree they are toxic and are not really "recyclable" . LEDs just are not a good replacement, yet. They are point source lighting and are horrific for shop lights and create massive shadowing that both florescent and hid don't, or not as bad
You need better stores. And better brand lamps. We sometimes date our CFL lamps for whinny customers to cover ourselves from customers who state lamps burn out too quick. I went to get order info from a boardroom recessed light the other day and when I removed the lamp is was dated back to 2017 and still burning. Sure LED’s are bad for the eyes…..when you stare directly into them lol. It’s the blue light that some leds emit that’s bad. Primarily from phone/computer displays, hence the reason for blue light blockers. Incandescent is trash lighting, fluorescent is great and LED light spread has come a long way since its beginnings and is king of efficiency which is why everything is goin LED. As far as longevity goes…….LED for the win. I get called out way more to repair fluorescent fixtures than I do to repair LED fixtures. As far as lamp life goes from worse to best it’s incandescent then fluorescent/cfl then LED.
Yes, they make and sell T12’s but they are and have been on the phaseout list for a good long while now (for good reason). Just because they’ve been around a half century doesn’t mean that they’re poster child of lighting. It just took half a century to come up with something better. Led is a great replacement, while I agree that they are a point light source, they’re just the source of light. That’s why diffusers are used to spread the light. You’ll get all that shadowing affect when cheap non-diffused fixtures are used. A ton of, if not all major retailers use LED lighting nowadays because it’s better lighting and way more efficient than the latter. Lighting is a very important ingredient in retail sales and, retailers would never use them if it was gonna affect their sales. I respectfully disagree with you. LED has come a long way in the past decade and has out competed other light sources because……they’re just better.
Led are bad for eyes, period. Not just if you stare at them. Led light spread is still trash for room lighting. We have them in our shop as florescent replacement and the shadowing while working sheet metal is horrific. When you put enough led in to reduce shadowing then you easily use as much power as t5
And I'll disagree with you. I have yet to witness LEDs being better than anything but incandescent in shop/work settings. I've worked in large shops, especially cat as an engine and power train builder and when hey switched to led not only did it cause severe migraine for weeks but I had to use more work lights to see clearly due to shadowing, same with the sheet metal shop I work in
Again I’ll have to disagree. We hang highbay led lights for all kinds of applications nowadays (warehouses/shops). with zero complaints. Thats just one of the many applications we do. Optics in your fixtures at your shop sound subpar. Only drawback about LED’s for me is it takes my eye a lil more time to adjust to the crispness of the light because I wear multi focal contacts. Past that. None really.
Big Box stores are well aware all claims of longevity are trash. They expect you to lose interest and buy more. A few expense spotlights are great if you use them infrequently. The ROI after getting an engineer involved is not existant in warehouse setting. They are being force down on you.
I cant even begin to tell you how many fixtures I’ve upgraded from from fluorescent to LED. Company I work for do a ton of HUGE fulfillment warehouses and every fixture is highbay Led on independent motion sensors. Lights are specifically spec’ed out and aren’t cheap.
May I ask where you sourced the ATI Straton Light. I am looking for a single light for a second reef tank that is a 45 gallon tall for softies. There is no doubt ATI got the diffuser right on these lights.
Yes, BRS discontinued the Stratons. I waited that long because I ran an ATI 8x54 fixture with 2 Orphek bars and tested 2 Radions XR30 and didn't have the spread of the ATI T5.
