I'm sort of at my wit's end with a case of dinoflagellates. I'm quite confident in the diagnosis--it sounds like that carpet of tiny bubbles hanging off the tips of stringy snots on the sand are a pretty solid key to identification. But I just can. not. kill. them.
This started after I dosed N03 because my SPS were paling. I've done two blackouts--this last one was a complete blackout with a tarp for 5 days. Concurrently, I've been using saturated kalkwasser in the ATO to try to get the PH up, but this only gets it up to about 8.3. I've also been adding Brightwell PH+ at the maximum dose, to no avail. After the first blackout, the dinos appeared to be gone until I ramped the lights back to their full schedule about a week later. Now I'm about ready to resume normal lighting after the second blackout, and I can already see little spots of dinos coming back. I don't dare dose H202 because I've heard it can take out shrimps--our 3 sexy shrimps are among our favorite residents. What else can I do?
