Pump button won’t turn back on after doing water change

Take pump apart and I think a good vinegar soak overnight will fix it.

the stock SCA pump had issues when i first plugged it in and i had to give it a go smack to get it going

later on i had a similar issue after a water change, i thought the pump was dead. i ran to the LFS and bought a new pump and got it in there and still.. nothing. i then turned my blame to the check valve that, after reading, was not a good idea to add.

turns on some calerpa had gotten into the return nozzles and wastotally blocking the flow.

idk if you have a fuge or not, but i'd clean the return nozzles quickly and see if that might the issue.

Hey I would try removing the pump and re-seating the impeller. Could possibly have something jamming the impeller from spinning.

I get a lot of calcium built up on my pumps and will have this happen about every 6 months. I take them apart and soak them in vinegar for a few hours and they are then like brand new. I have also had external pumps do this and it turned out to be a start capacitor. Most likely you just need to clean your pump.

I had a old sicce pump that would do this. Even when I cleaned it and didn’t do it every time. The thing that worked for was grabbing the return hose and raising it up and down bumping it against the sump. Sometimes it just needed a kick start.

The one time my pump stopped working after a WC the cleaning of the pump rectified the problem. I'd start with cleaning the pump first.

You may have to unplug and pull the pump out of the aquarium. There should be a removable face plate . If there is, remove the face plate and then you should see a small (impellor) that looks like a fan blade. Pull that up and out of the pump housing and clean the impellor with a brush kit. Make sure the impellor looks normal and doesn't have any broken blades or parts. Put the impellor back into the pump housing. Reattach the cover or face plate. Submerse the pump and have someone with dry hands, plug it in.
This may do the trick.

My Red Sea pumps will stop about every 3 months. I take them apart in a bucket of rodi water and let them run an hour or so in the bucket of water on their side. You may have to take the pump down to the impeller to get it to start again.

This is Extremely important:
Whenever equipment isn't working properly, Do Not leave it plugged in. And especially unattended.
There are times when the impeller in the pumps are in a position that keeps them from moving. If its not moving and plugged in, the motor will overload and heat up. This can cause the pump to burst open and contaminate the tank killing your livestock. The worst thing that can happen is the wire burns and catches the house on fire. So if something isn't right, get it working, or unplug it.
You should probably removed the pump, make sure it's unplugged, and inspect it. Definitely take a close look at the wire and make sure that didn't burn. As said previously, a good soak in white vinegar couldn't hurt. Take pictures and post them here. Everyone here will help you get your tank back up and running.

Yes mine does that some times. You have to take it apart and rinse it out. Or that's what I do and it works everytime. Even when ita not dirty lol

I have a Sicce 1.0 return pump that is pretty new and is almost impossible to restart after cleaning it too! Even with a citric acid soak.
